I remember
When we danced around the dandelions
Linked in a posy
We lay on the layered grass
Listening to songs sang gaily
By the birds who chirped
Quietly- almost soundlessly-
but with the full force
of braveness
and of melody.
I remember
when we wondered through the forest
We danced around the knarled tree trunks
and clapped for the bird’s performances.
We slipped through the green
Looked up into the canopies
And thanked each other-
for each other-
because we already knew.
I remember
When we ran down to the shore
Felt the tide coming in
We laughed
and felt the squelching sand
tickle our wriggling toes.
We splashed each other
and fell over each other-
eventually- with exhaustedness.
Now I remember
the day I am now forced to remember
the day when all hell broke loose.
