Mine to Keep:

When Lilly is 12

It was a chilly February day which was a nice surprise for those who lived in Brunswick, Georgia. It wasn't normally like this outside but the weather decided to change it up. My parents and older brother John were out getting some groceries so I was home alone for now. It had just started to rain outside and it didn't look very good. I hated the feeling that I got in my stomach. It was like something bad was going to happen, like the feeling I had when my brother flipped his dirt bike or the time my father got hurt at work. My dad works at the Glenn County fire department and when he went to do his job he was injured by a burning beam that nearly killed him.

I was pacing the living room waiting for my family to get home I heard the screech of tires on wet pavement and the crunch of metal on metal. I bolted out of the house, in my bare feet and felt my heart leap into my throat at the sight before me. I saw our tiny blue focus practically crushed by a huge 4x4 truck. I screamed for my father, as I ran towards the car. I saw that he had been tossed from the car and was laying on the road not moving,

"Daddy!" I sobbed slid to a stop on my knees and rolled him onto his back. "Daddy please!" I cried trying to get him to wake up but he wasn't moving. Why wasn't my dad moving? "Don't leave me." I cried, hiccupping as I shook his shoulder. I continued to beg him to come back even as the paramedics surrounded me and pulled me away from him. I screamed and struggled against their relentless hold but my twelve year old body was no match for their strength. I kept thinking over and over that my daddy couldn't be gone, that he'd he wouldn't leave me. Suddenly, the paramedic that was holding onto me was thrown to the ground in an explosion and I screamed, utterly furious that they wouldn't let me go to my father. They had to forcefully sedate me but before I went under I heard someone say that it would be okay.

It would never be okay. Everybody I loved was gone and I had no one. They were just gone!
