Samuel was in shock and denial as he walked down to the morgue of the hospital with Dr. Alisha, barely registering the words of what he would be expecting to see when she uncovered 'the bodies' for him to identify. He had just gotten the call only a few hours ago around one in the morning, but he had immediately gotten dressed and drove the hours to the hospital when he heard that there had been a car crash. There had been two people in each car, an older man and young woman with one pair being alive in a hospital room yet he wanted to go to the morgue first. He wanted to show himself that they were alive, that he was going to go back and see them joking with each other and laughing while both being worried about the other and he'd go to the gift shop first though and get them some cute get well items and--
"Mr. Bennett?" Samuel jumped, looking up to see the worried expression of the doctor and he saw that they had gotten to the entrance of the morgue with her having the door open for him. "Are you alright? We could go see the other two if you are not up to this--"
"N-no! I mean, I'll be fine. I just want to show myself that they... I'll be fine.." Samuel really didn't know what he wanted to show himself what and he had a horrid feeling in his chest that he kept trying to push away as he was led into the room only to see two metal tables with two covered bodies. He halted a few feet away, his body shaking a bit as the doctor waited by the two covers to show the faces and he took a deep breath before stepping to the table next to her. This was just to see what could have happened and to be even more thankful that they were alive, that he would be seeing them in just a few minutes.
"You ready, Mr. Bennett?" Samuel nodded, closing his eyes tight as she lifted the covers, taking a breath before opening his eyes to see his fear come alive. Time slowed as he stared at his brother and niece, Tristan and Amanda Bennett, dead on a metal table from a car crash to their 'Dream Va-cay' on Amanda's first college spring break. He could feel his heart crack as tears welled up and spilled over within a second, his breathing quickening as his whole body shook.
"N.... No.... No. No no no!!" Samuel yelled finally at the last no and he knelt down over the two bodies that were close together just as in life, a hand on each cold, stiff face with his tears and sobs clear to any around. He shook his head as the doctor tried to pull him away from his last family members, his two most favorite people in his whole world gone from his grip with nothing being able to bring them back.
He stayed like that for a long while before he allowed himself to be pulled away and out of the morgue to the office of one of the hospital officials to fill out some paperwork which he did numbly, once in a while letting out a few sobs before returning to the paperwork to let him take the bodies out of the hospital and off those cold tables. He left the hospital hours later and as he sat in his car he could feel the tears run down his face as he knew one thing was a fact now.
He was all alone.
