amelia bishop couldn't wait to walk through the crystal clear glass doors of her favorite diner, thunderstruck

the name itself made her smile with excitement. it was a hot, july day so a giant scooping of ice cream was something she desperately needed. all her friends were busy, and the thought of sitting around at home all day made her cringe. so taking matters into her own hands, she stuffed her pockets with cash and walked to the local restaurant.

once she made it to the classic diner on the corner of 21st and monroe, she barged into the double doors only to discover a line of customers between her and the delicious cookie-dough ice cream. she let out a sigh of annoyance and took her place in the long line.

harry styles entered the wonderful diner named thunderstruck, his stomach begging him to pig-out on some ice cream. he had been anticipating this moment all day, to finally have the cookies & cream ice cream he craved so much.

the sight before him made him frown in disappointment, however. the place was jam packed. the line was annoyingly long, which meant he'd have to wait longer than he wanted to for his ice cream. after a long day at his summer job, this technicality got on his nerves.

huffing out a frustrated sigh, he went to stand in line behind a young girl about his age. he wasn't one to stare, but he based on he could see, she had a small frame and long, wavy, caramel colored hair. her skin wasn't pale, but it wasn't a dark tan either.

he snapped himself out of his invasive thoughts and tried to occupy himself with his location in line. it was finally moving forward.

hallelujah, the line is moving. amelia had been tapping her toes impatiently for the last 10 minutes, the agony of waiting getting on her nerves.

to occupy herself, she began picking at her fingernails. she hadn't repainted them in a while, so now there was just a few splotches of red here and there.

a few minutes had passed, and with amelia's short attention span, she hadn't noticed that there was now a large gap between her and the customer in front of her.

harry had noticed this, taking it upon himself to point it out.

"excuse me," he tapped on amelia's shoulder. she whirled around, facing him. he pointed ahead of her, and she spun back around.

"oh. sorry," she apologized, closing the gap. she had only glanced at the boy behind her for just a few short moments, catching a glimpse at his vibrant green eyes and the fluff of brown hair atop his head.

harry had the opportunity to soak in the beauty of the girl standing in front of him in line. she had the lightest shade of green eyes he'd ever seen. her lips were almost bubblegum pink, possibly from a lip gloss or whatever it is girls apply to their mouth.

amelia shook herself from her thoughts, deciding it would be best to pay attention. harry did the same.

"what would you like today, amelia?" the young employee by the name of joshua asked her. she knew most of the people here due to her frequent visits and bubbly personality.

"chocolate chip cookie-dough. the usual," she smiled. after pointing to the largest serving glass, she got out her money.

"are you sure you can handle all that ice cream at once?" a soothing voice called out. it was harry. he had no idea where the sudden confidence in himself came from, but he was grateful to finally make a move to speak to the mysterious beauty.

amelia handed joshua the cash, turning around. she was able to get a better look at the boy now. he was very tall with pale skin and crimson lips.

"i believe i can," she smirked.

"and what would you like, sir?" joshua asked harry. he had only came here a few times, not as familiar to the people as amelia was.

"cookies & cream. the tallest glass you've got," he stated. amelia raised a brow up to the boy. men and their desire to impress

"amelia bishop," she introduced herself, extending her arm out to the boy.

"harry styles," he accepted the gesture with a cheeky grin. once harry had paid for his order, and they both retrieved their cool ice cream delights, they took a seat together on the tall stools by the window.

harry didn't know it, but his pale cheeks were a shade of pink now.

"harry, why are you blushing?" amelia pointed it out, her big eyes gazing at the boy. she was preparing herself to devour the frozen treat, but she also couldn't help but stare.

"what? oh. you're just really pretty," harry stammered.

"it's a gift," she laughed. "actually, my grandmother moved here from greece, and the people over there are extravagant."

"so you get your looks from her?" harry asked. he was comfortable talking to her now.

"i guess so," amelia replied. the truth was, her hair was too long and tangled, and she didn't have the decency to even wash her face this morning, but if this boy thought she was pretty, she wasn't going to complain.

harry took a bite out of his ice cream, his face twisting from the sharp sensation of cold. amelia tried to stifle her laugh, only to fail.

"i'd like to see you eat that frozen nightmare," he challenged, pointing towards amelia's glass.

amelia smiled, a distant memory of her childhood resurfacing.

"you know that one spongebob episode," she began, gazing out the window.

"you're going to have to be more specific than that," harry said, admiring the young girl across from him.

"i wasn't aware i was being vague," amelia scoffed. "the one where spongebob couldn't get into the salty spitoon. all because he wasn't tough enough."

"and then he went to this diner called weenie hut jr's," harry said, finishing her miniature anecdote for her. amelia smiled, turning her attention away from the window back to the boy.

"precisely. i bet you aren't tough enough to finish that ice cream all at once without knocking yourself out from whiplash," she grinned.

"well, i see you've challenged me to a duel," harry replied.

"you started it," amelia fired back.

"okay. the first one to finish their ice cream without dying from brain freeze wins," harry stated.

"you're on, squarepants."

"hey!"

a/n: okay so here's a small harry one shot i've been meaning to write for quite some time.

- the diner is called thunderstruck because i was listening to ac/dc while writing this.

- you get to decide who wins.

- comment below who you think won the ice cream battle, and don't forget to vote.
