A man named Sam Wilson was doing his morning jog around D.C. when Steve ran straight past him.

"On your left," Steve said.

As Sam kept going, Steve was doing another lap.

"On your left," Steve said again

"Uh-huh, on my left. Got it," Sam chuckled.

Sam kept running until he noticed Steve behind him from doing another lap.

"Don't say it! Don't you say it!" Sam demanded.

"On your left!" Steve said.

"Come on!" Sam shouted.

Sam got angry and tried to run after Steve. Then he took a major breather as he sat under a tree.

"Need a medic?" Steve commented.

Sam laughed and said, "I need a new set of lungs. Dude, you just ran like thirteen miles in thirty minutes."

"I guess I got a late start," Steve replied.

"Oh, really? You should be ashamed of yourself. You should take another lap," Sam commented, paused, then asked sarcastically, "Did you just take it? I assumed you just took it."

"What unit you with?" Steve asked.

"Fifty-eighth, Pararescue. But now I'm working down at the VA. Sam Wilson," Sam introduced, holding out a hand.

"Steve Rogers," Steve did the same, shaking his hand.

"I kind of put that together. Must have freaked you out coming home after the whole defrosting thing," Sam replied.

"It takes some getting used to," Steve remarked.

"And sorry they couldn't recover your sister," Sam said.

"Thanks, but how'd you hear about that?" Steve wondered.

"We learned that you both brought the plane down, but you were the only one recovered. But both of you were major heroes then and still are now," Sam explained.

"Thanks for that. It's good to meet you, Sam," Steve responded.

Steve started to walk off.

"It's your bed, right?" Sam wondered.

"What's that?" Steve asked.

"Your bed, it's too soft. When I was over there, I'd sleep on the ground and use rock for pillows like a caveman. Now I'm home, lying in my bed, and it's like..." Sam explained.

"Lying on a marshmallow. Feel like I'm gonna sink right to the floor," Steve finished.

Sam smiled and nodded at that.

"How long?" Steve wondered.

"Two tours. You must miss the good old days, huh?" Sam replied.

"Well, things aren't so bad. Food's a lot better, we used to boil everything. No polio is good. Internet, so helpful. I've been reading that a lot trying to catch up," Steve explained.

"Marvin Gaye, 1972, 'Trouble Man' soundtrack. Everything you've missed jammed into one album," Sam suggested.

"I'll put it on the list," Steve said.

Steve took out his little notebook and opened it to add it with the movies, music, and shows he needed to watch and listen to. Then he got a text that read:

"Mission alert. Extraction imminent. Meet at the curb. :)"

"Alright, Sam, duty calls. Thanks for the run. If that's what you wanna call running," Steve told him and they shook hands.

"Oh, that's how it is?" Sam commented.

"Oh, that's how it is," Steve responded.

Sam laughed and remarked, "Okay. Any time you wanna stop by the VA, make me look awesome in front of the girl at the front desk, just let me know."

"I'll keep it in mind," Steve said.

"Okay," Sam nodded.

A car then pulled up and the window rolled down to reveal Natasha Romanoff.

"Hey, fellas. Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I'm here to pick up a fossil," Natasha joked.

"That's hilarious," Steve replied sarcastically.

Steve got in the car as Sam gave Natasha and her car an appreciative look.

"How you doing?" Sam said.

"Hey," Natasha greeted.

"Can't run everywhere," Steve pointed out.

"No, you can't," Sam agreed.

He watched as the car drove off.

"By the way, after the mission, we have some good news to give you," Natasha said.

"Why can't I know now?" Steve asked.

"We want you to have a clear head for the mission. Once it's done, you can find out," Natasha answered.

"Fair enough," Steve responded.
