Chapter One
James' PoV
I poked my head out of my room, listening carefully, my ears tilting to catch even the slightest sound. A huge smile broke out on my face. It worked! My brilliant ruse worked! Since a majority of my plans go wrong, I was actually quite surprised. Even Logan thought I was sick! I slipped out of me and Carlos' shared bedroom and walked down the hall to the living room before squealing like a girl and jumping up and down. I was so excited! I haven't had a place to myself in months!
I leapt onto the neon orange couch and rolled around, purring like crazy. Yes, I'm purring. Impossible, you say? Well not when you're half cat like I am. I stretched out to my full length, arching my back and extending my claws. My pretty orange, black, and white tail swished back and forth happily. I had a little over an hour and a half to play and there were so many things I wanted to do! Suddenly the front door opened, making me groan. I pull my ears and tail back, curling up into a sick little ball on the couch. I slowly lifted up my head to peer over the couch. "Forgot my keys." Kendall said by way of explanation. I mentally rolled my eyes. Of course he did.
"Have fun!" I said, coughing as I waved goodbye. Kendall gave me a funny look before disappearing out the door. I collapsed on the couch, sighing. Now I was alone. I waited a few minutes just to be sure, but immediately leapt up and continued rolling around as soon as I heard the familiar purr of Kendall's sky blue convertible. I got tired of rolling around after about fifteen minutes and sat upside down on the couch. I know, I know, I'm acting ridiculous and like Carlos, but I can't help it. I haven't really gotten to play in SOOOO long.
I frowned, staring at the tv stand. The small black hole in the wall at its base was barely noticeable to those not paying attention but I had very good eyesight. I had been watching that mouse hole for months but as if yet, there had been no since of a fat juicy mouse. However, Mrs. K's traps had caught plenty in the past few months. Such a waste. But now, a head poked in and out timidly, its beady black eyes watching everything as its little pink nose quivered. I slowly rolled over and curled up on the couch, ready to pounce at a moment's notice. As soon as the whole mouse was out and away from the hole, I pounced, flying through the air and slamming into the wall. I missed the mouse, which scampered off, looking for a new hiding place.
Claws skidding on the golden brown hardwood floor, I chased after it, knocking almost everything over. I skidded into the wall as the little morsel ran around a sharp turn and into the kitchen. I grinned evilly, slowly stalking it. I had it backed into a corner with no escape. I briefly thought about whether I wanted to do the traditional cat-and-mouse game with it, but decided against it. I pounced on it and tossed it in the air, bouncing a few times before swallowing it whole. Being a cat hybrid with bits of owl can be fun, especially since I don't have to pick the meat off the tiny bones which takes too much time. My tail twitched happily as I leapt to my feet and pranced back over to the couch, freezing mid-step when I realized what a mess of the living room I had caused. Oops. Real cats have it so much easier being less than a foot in height. On my hands and knees, I'm at least two and a half feet, almost triple that of a common house cat. "Damn it!" I muttered, before beginning to pick up the room.
There goes a majority of my alone time.
