"Ladies first." I smirk gesturing Carson to climb the ladder first.

She rolls her eyes playfully and she climbs up. We both reach the top and we take our usual seat on the edge. I open my bag and grab my half packet full of sour patch kids. I lay them down in the middle of Carson and I. She smiles and takes one and so do I.

"So what's the conversation topic tonight, Dolan?"

"Whatever." I reply. "It seems we always find a topic. Something that really boils our blood."

Carson laughs. She was wearing a black t-shirt. Carson always wore long sleeves tops.

"Are you feeling a lot more comfortable with you number, then?" I ask.

Carson looks down at her arm. "I used to be insecure about it. You know, everyone else has found there love, I felt alone."

"And then you met me."

"And then I met you, Ethan." Carson chuckles.

Carson's P.O.V

"So how's Sage?" Ethan questioned.

"I haven't talked to him since Friday. I don't really want to hear him go on about his girlfriend."

"You mean his wife."

"Thanks Ethan, that makes me feel so much better."

Ethan laughs and grabs another sour patch kid.

"Not getting timed out on is really harsh isn't it?" He asked.

I look at him and his eyes went soft. Usually they were full of life. But then I had just realised what he was saying.

"That girl." I say. "That girl you were talking to, she timed out on somebody else didn't she?"

Ethan laughed and leaned back on his arm. "Her names Mackenzie." He states. "We were going out. Her and I both knew that she would be timing out soon. But, I thought that we could, I don't know, try fight it?"

I stare at him as he picks up another piece of candy.

"We were out at the movies. We were trying to distract her from timing out on somebody else." He said sadly. "We were leaving the movie theatre, she bumped into someone and she fell in love."

"And you watched it?"

"I watched it." He nodded. "Not exactly the best thing in the world. It's not her fault, it's not like she can stop it."

"Ethan, I'm so sorry-"

"You don't need to be sorry." Ethan exclaimed. "I get enough of it from my family."

"I can't imagine what that's like."

"Well, promise me something Carson."

I nod as I stared into his eyes.

"Do not fall in love before your time is up."
