A wooden cart, pulled by a pair of black horses, bumped over a dirt path, bars of a metal cage rattling in the back. A full moon hung high in the sky, bathing the land in an off-white glow.
"You caused me quite a bit of trouble, you know." A woman's voice cut through the silence of the night. Turning her head, Anabel peeked over her shoulder at the siver creature in the cage. Beside her, a man in a butler's uniform held the horses' reins. "I never would have thought such a small fox could be so troublesome."
A deep growl rumbled from behind the metal bars, ice blue eyes glowing in the dim moonlight. The beast lashed out, throwing himself into the door of the cage in a attempt to break free, with little success. Strange symbols etched into the metal glowed a soft purple as the fox made contact with them. His eyes narrowed at the runes for a moment before they flicked back to the woman at the front of the cart.
"Oh, did you think I didn't know what you were, you silly little yokai?" Anabel laughed, the high sound bouncing off surrounding trees and ringing in the silver beast's sensitive ears. A smirk curled ruby painted lips. "I had that cage specially made, just for you."
The cart pulled to a stop before a large manor nestled into a clearing at the end of the road. "Mistress, we have arrived." The man in the butler's uniform announced, stepping down from the driver's seat to help his Mistress down from her perch.
"Thank you, Sebastian." Raising her fingers to her lips, Anabel whistled, high-pitched and long. The sound grated on the caged yokai's ears, and he growled his discomfort. In the next minute, several male servants stood in a line next to the cart, awaiting orders from their Mistress.
"Bring him," Anabel gestured over her shoulder at the fox, "inside and into parlor." Turning away, she made her way toward the large doorway, which Sebastian held open. Pausing, she called over shoulder. "And be careful not to make eye contact with him. You'll lose yourself." With that, she stepped through the doorway, presumably going to change out of the clothing she had worn for the "hunt", leaving the servants to their task.

Ice blue eyes remained trained on the parlor door long after it had closed behind the servants tasked to bring him inside. His ears perked up to catch any sound and tail flicking back and forth, he waited patiently.
Humans were curious creatures. That he had learned a long time ago. He knew that some servant would come through that doorway to pass through the room, see the silver fox caged in the corned, and take a closer look out of curiosity. Even if it was the woman who had trapped him who came in first, he knew she would slip up eventually, and give him what he wanted.
Kitsune yokai were notorious for getting what they wanted, and what he wanted was his freedom.
No sooner than after finishing that thought, his ears picked up the sound of the doorknob turning. As the door opened, a younger boy in servant's attire stepped into the room, closed the door behind him, and made for the door on the other side of the room. The caged yokai seized his opportunity, and made a whimpering noise in the back of his throat, easily attracting the attention of the young human.
The boy slowly moved over the cage, and crouched in front of it. His expression held curiosity and awe as he peered at the beautiful creature behind the bars. Unknowing of the consequences, the child's soft brown eyes connected with the fox's ice blue.
Open this cage for me, young one. A deep, smooth voice rang through the child's head. Those soft brown eyes dulled, and the boy nodded in a slow, empty sort of way. Reaching out, he released the latch that held the metal door shut.
Now.. Sleep. The boy slumped to the floor, snoring softly, as the fox nudged the door open and stepped out. Turning back to the cage, he gazed at calculatingly for a moment. He lashed out, much like he had on the cart. This time, the cage was easily reduced to a pile of broken bars.
He moved toward the door. He had his freedom. Now he wanted revenge.

Rubbing a towel over her wet hair, Anabel stepped into the dining room. She'd always been one to shower before dinner as opposed to after, and this time around, she'd decided to be nice and let the staff dine with her in celebration of capturing a certain fox.
Towel still over her head, she couldn't see much as she closed the door behind her. She was a bit confused as to why she couldn't smell food, but brushed it off as the cooks slacking. She resumed rubbing her wet hair.
"Sebastian, what's for dinner tonight?" She received no response. "Sebastian?" A frown settled on her lips as she, yet again, received no response. She pulled the towel from her head, and opened her eyes, intending to see why the butler wasn't answering. What she saw before her made her gasp.
Most of the white marble floor was stained crimson. Slowly sliding her eyes over the room, Anabel could see various body parts strewn around in an awful, bloody mess. The mangled bodies of her servants still leaking blood onto the floor. She could feel herself start to shake, and she felt like vomiting. "W-what..?"
A sound that came off almost as a chuckled cut through the air, and the woman's head snapped up. Sitting on the far end of the table, silver fur drenched in blood, was the very fox Anabel had intended to celebrate capturing.
The creature slowly started to make its way across the long table toward her. It's image seemed to shimmer, and was slowly replaced by that of a man. The only remnants of the fox having been in his place were the blood soaking his yukata, the silver ears perched on his head, and tail slowly swishing behind him.
"You know, Anabel," The woman shivered at the threatening tone lacing his words, and started to back away. "I don't really enjoy having my freedom taken from me." The man stepped down from the table, and toward Anabel, who had backed herself into a corner.
"P-please... I'm sorry." Anabel visibly shook, her eyes wide with fear.
The yokai's mouth slowly curled into a cruel smirk as he stopped in front of her. "No. You're not."
A ragged, terrified scream echoed through the manor and the surrounding forest as more blood and limbs were added to the mess in the dining room.
Kitsune yokai always get what they want.
