When I woke up, I went to the bathroom and got ready for the day. Brushed my teeth, washed my face and I had brought my clothes with me, so I changed clothes, from my pajamas to jeans, converse, red Keep Calm shirt, and a green sweater. I sliped my glasses back on, gathered my stuff and threw it on the bed. I had a balcony, and normally had breakfast on it. I had a table and two chairs, though the second chair was useless. I had a mini fridge that contained, bottles of Orange juice, bottles of Starbucks Frappés, and a 12 pact of croissants. I just bought a new bag. l kept a plastic red plate on top of the fridge, l grabbed it and a croissant and a Frappe. Every morning one or the other, Frappe or OJ and a croissant. I could see the little 13 year old girl's window. I wondered if she woke up and ran to hug her dad. I wondered if she had to go to school today. I wondered if she still had cake and if she'd had some for breakfast. I finally got up, wiped up the plate placed it back on top of the fridge and grabbed my Frappé. I went back inside to make my snack for school, I ate there. Our school actually had a good food court. I made myself a snack of trail mix and a protein bar. I grabbed my uniformed bag, turned off the lights and walked out the front door. There were a few boxes of in the hall, which I found weird, but I turned around and checked the door and then left. Walking to the elevator, I hear footsteps behind me and start walking faster. I get into the elevator and press lobby button but a boy about my age stopped the doors from closing. "Hey sorry, I'm just running late." "It's fine." I say as I put my headphones on one side, his side. He pulled out a map, and started looking at it. "So how exactly do you get to River Falls Academy?" "Well," l start, while taking the map from him and start folding it up, "You could just follow me." l say it matter of factly, as l finish folding his map and hand it back to him. He smiles one of those charming smiles you only see in movies, because all real life guys aren't charming. He repiles "Okay. Thanks." He moves his bag up on his shoulder a little, "I'm Tom, by the way.'' l was looking straight ahead, he was starring at me, "Violet Green. Nice to meet you." "Your name is Violet Green?" "Yes is that so strange? l know, my father though it'd be cute, okay?" "Okay. He was right, by the way." l know I live on the top floor of the building but this was the longest elevator ride ever, and right as I thought it the bell dinged and the elevators opened to vomit us into the lobby. l turned to Tom, "come on". He followed me. "So what do you study there?" he asked me. "Piano and singing. You?" "Dance. I'd love to be a two major student." "My dad wasn't happy about it, he wanted me just to study piano," l repiled. He didn't say anything for a minute then asked, "So what's your favorite class?" Why was he asking so many questions? "l think right now it's interpertive dance." l paused for a second because I couldn't believe I'd just said that. Then l noticed that Tom was beaming from ear to ear, looking the ground while we walked. "Mainly it's my favorite because I can bs it." He looked disappointed, like interpertive dance was his life and I just crushed his dream of having a girlfriend that could dance, sing and play piano. He repiled, "Oh. So you have to take other chasses besides your major?" He seemed confused, "Yeah. Did they tell you that? They should have told you that." "It's all right haven't fully registered yet." I stopped in front of the school, he kept walking for a second before he noticed that I had stopped. "Why'd you stop?" He seemed really confused. "You did audition right?" l asked. "Yes, but they came to see me." He repiled, pulling me into the ally beside the school. "So you've never seen the school?" "No?" I took him by the hand and led him back in front of the glass doors, "why are we here again? Do you work here?" He really didn't know. "Qaewin!" Kevin and I shake hands our normal way even though I don't let go of Tom's hand. Kevin holds the door and I lead Tom through the front door. "Wait what this is the school?" I let go of his hand and he just looks up. Our school is white and glass with five levels. Floor one is the lobby, offices and normal classes. Floor two is theatre classes. Floor three is music classes. Floor four is dance classes. Floor five is vocal classes. It's a interesting place that I love. "Whoa. This. Place is. AMAZING!!!" Tom basically shouts. "Tom shhh." I whisper, "there are studiers. Listen," I look at the clock on the wall. "Kevin and I have music mixing in five minutes so I'm going to leave you here at the front desk. Do you think you'll be okay?." "Yeah, are we friends? Is it safe to say that I can see you later?" he asks while still looking up and then at me. "Yeah," I replied and push him towards the front desk. As we were walking up the stairs, l look back. Tom is still looking up as Mrs. Hudson asks him, "Sir may I help you?" Then I walked straight to music mixing. I didn't see Tom until lunch. I saw our principal walking toward Kevin and I. I put my headphones around my neck, "Mr.Peterman? Is that you out of your office?" l ask sarcastically. He smirks and says in his fantastic Scottish accent, "Haha, Miss Violet Green. This is Mr.Thomas Leonard, I was wondering if you would be ever so kind to keep him company during his adjusting period." l stand up, and look (fake) judgingly at Tom. "Mhm okay," I say say and smile at them both. Mr.Peterman sits Tom down beside Kevin- who still has his headphones on- and then then says then says to me, "Tom is here as a dance major but he still needs to audition with Mrs.Geller, can you help set that up?" "Sure thing Mr.Peterman." I say and smile. He pats me on the back and says, "Thank you Madame," then walks away. "Hi Friend!" Tom says and smiles, then takes my laptop. "What are you working on?" "Please don't mess it up. It's my homework for music mixing." "I still can't believe that's an actual class." He looks very relaxed. "Here," I hand him my headphones, "listen to it and tell me what you think." He puts the headphones on and smiles at me. I had mixed a score song from Inception and one from Hunger Games. He takes the headphones off, "It's good." "Hey guys!" Kevin takes his headphones off. "Listen!!" He pulls the cord out of the laptop, and he starts playing his new song, "this is great Kevin." Tom speaks up "I agree but isn't it against the rules to play music out loud? " It was as if as soon as he said it his ears turned on. He started looking around at the groups of people singing and dancing and just playing, in the cafeteria, in the middle of the day. "Come on guys, let's get food." We go through the Subway line. And make our way back to our table, "this school has Subway in it." Tom says as we sit back down. "Love it yet?" Kevin asks. "Yes!" At the end of lunch we head up to the fourth floor and split up from Kevin, was going to hip hop class. "We're this way." I lead Tom through the door and into the changing room. I start getting changed, "whoa," Tom closes his eyes, "what? what are you doing?" "I have to get dressed for class. Do you have dance clothes with you?" "Uhh... Yeah. Always do." "Well get them on. NOW! We are late." I say as I'm finishing and sit down to put my shoes on. Tom finishes putting on his clothes and shoes, "Crap I must have forgot one shoe at home." "What size are you?" I ask a bit annoyed, "Ten," he says, "here," I reach into my locker and pull out a pair. "it seems we wear the same size. Look l know they aren't as great as yours because they aren't broke in to your feet." He shrugs, "Thank you," He slips them on, they fit. I grab his hand and pull him out the door as people start to entre. "Mrs.Geller, this is River Fall's newest student. Here only in one major, dance. He's your little mind to mold." "Mhm," she looks him up and down, "let's see what you can do, shall we?" She heads over to the stereo system and turns on The Writer by Ellie Goulding. "We shall!" Tom says and smiles at me, then squeezes my hand and let's go. He moves to the middle of the floor while Mrs.Geller rewinds the song. Don't get me wrong, Mrs.Geller is an excellent teacher and she has this awesome french accent. But she's tough, nobody gets higher than a B in her class. There is a myth that a senior once got an A, but it was only one point higher than a B and it was said that it was only because Mrs.Geller was tired when she put in the grades and basically no one has heard from that guy since. "Non, non, non. Mademoiselle Violet, you will perform this song then Monsieur-" she looked at Tom, "-what is your name Monsieur?" Tom cleared his throat and replied, "Tom Leonard, Ma'am." "Right Monsieur Tom will follow your performance and replicate it and Madame Violet you will grade him." "Yes Ma'am." Tom repiled, I nodded. No argument, this kid understood- don't question the man. The rest of the class filled the room. "Everyone listen. Madame Violet is in charge. I have to go for a appointment but you must do everything she says." She turns to me, "Everything's in your hands." Then she turned around and got her stuff and heads out of the door. "Okay everyone basically going to have a free day. I want you to practice anything you've been working on. But first, this is our new student. His name is Tom Leonard and we have to audition him. So I'm presenting my solo and then he's going to do his interpretation of it so, umm, yeah okay." Tom comes up to me and whispers, "How I'm going to learn it so fast?" "You don't have to. Have you ever done improv?" "No." "Just go with the music and do what feels right. That's what I do every time." "Really? And it works?" He seems very nervous. "Yeah. Totally." I push him into the chair usually inhabited by Madame Geller and moved to the middle of the floor. That silence I love falls over the room. And I nod at Tori to start the music. I perform it and when I'm done a clapping roar erupts. "Thanks. Now, Tom." As he passes me, "remember just go with the music." I give him a quick hug. He does just as well, and the roar starts up again. We watch some other people perform and before long class is over. We all get dressed back into our normal clothes and head to our sixth blocks. The second half of the day Tom and I have every class together. The final block of the day we have the pleasure of Kevin's company. It's European history class. "This is going to sound cheesy guys, but today has been the best day of my life, like ever. Which by the way Violet, can I walk home with you?" Tom said at the end of class, and I responded, "of course, but I might have to charge you if you keep walking with me." I smiled, so he'd know I was kidding. The last bell rang, and we got up to leave. On the way at the front door Mr. and Mrs. Peterman stopped us. "Bonjour, Monsieur et Madame Peterman." "Bonjour, ça va?" "Ça va tres bien. Ça va?" "Bien." "No offense, or anything, but I thought you were the vice principal?" "I am. But I'm also Mrs.Peterman." They both talked in heavy Scottish accents. They were so kind and wonderful. "Oh, okay." Tom said smiling. Mr.Peterman spoke up, "So did you like your first day, Thomas?" "I sure did. This- I have determined- is the best school ever." He said it so confidently. "Sorry to cut our talk time short but we must get home." "Bye then." They waved us good bye. We got home, which I assumed was his home. I told him good bye in the lobby. "What why?" "A girl has to work. I take reservations for the hotel side of our apartment building in the afternoons." l say as I point to the opposite elevator of where we got off this morning. "Oh. Well can we maybe hang out later?" I think about it, "What day is it?" "Tuesday." "Maybe, tonight is one of the only two nights my dad is actually home, so um, we'll see okay?" He looks a bit disappointed, but nods and heads up the stairs. I get ready, and do my job. My shift is finally over when I see my dad walk in. "Dad!" I run to him with the same ferocity that the little 13 year old girl did with her father last night. "Hey there Violet Night." He hugged me back. Then we went upstairs for dinner. Dad had brought Chinese chicken, and fries for me. After dinner, I left my parents alone for time together. I wisk myself away to to the roof with a glass of vanilla coco and and a blanket and my laptop. I'm sitting up there mixing music for class, when I notice this figure staring at me. "Hello? Who is there?" I move my laptop of my lap and onto the table in front of me. I push my blanket off my shoulders and stand up. "Hello?" I notice a blanket laying flat on the ground, it was bunched up at the end like someone got up fast. "Hello?" "Violet?" Tom moved closer so I could see his a face. "You scared me half to death." I said, grabbing my stuff. "Please, Miss Green join me in staring at the beautiful ambient light." "Okay," I smirked while thinking, (is this guy for real?) and then put my blanket next to his. I laid down and he laid down. I was staring up at the sky but I felt Tom staring at me. As went to sleep that night I thought of how you can meet someone and immediately like them. Then I started wonder did I like Tom as more than a friend? Did he like me? No, don't be crazy. Music. Focus.
