The laminated floor glowed and reflected a striking shade of electric-blue as the lamp in the corner flickered like a heartbeat. Above the floor stood a steel-cold set of a table and two chairs directly opposite and either side of the table. Grey-white cheap polystyrene tile's lined the ceiling with few out of place. It was tense and airless room.
Cutting through the tension like a knife, the door to the room swung open. In the doorway hung a tall looming man with short dark hair and eyes like cavernous caves of darkness. The man moved swiftly from the door frame and stood to the side of the door and ushered in a young frigid women.
The woman seemed to be in her very early twenty's and had pallid skin. The woman seemed very nervous and pulled the sleeves of her brown suit blazer. The man indicated to the two chairs in the center of the room and indicated the woman to sit in the seat the furthest from the door. Doing as the man implied she sat in the chair.
"Hello, I'm Detective Caines " the man said in a monotone voice with an expression to match. The woman lacked expression and nodded in response. The detective stared at the woman blankly.
"Miss.Porter I understand the unfortunate circumstances which took place this morning, I'm afraid as you are the only known released hostage we are going to have to ask you a few questions" Detective Caines spoke clearly.
Much like before the woman (Miss.Porter) lacked expression and simply looked down under the table into empty apathetic space. The Detective tried to follow the woman's gaze into the empty space and failed to comprehend the emptiness in her eyes. The detective placed a small brown paper file on the desk which was labelled "Scarlett Porter".
The Detective then coughed lightly and asked politely "Tea or Coffee , Miss?". Scarlett looked up and choked out "Coffee please" the Detective nodded and asked "white or black, sugar or no sugar?". Scarlett rolled her eyes and said quietly "black, no sugar's".
The Detective left the room closing (and locking) the door to the interrogation room behind him.
Scarlett closed her eyes and drifted into a sleep-like state as she recalled the event's of that morning in her head. Scarlett remembered being called into her office at the law firm by her boss who sounded hesitant at three that morning. She collected her memory's of herself driving to work in her second-hand dark navy-blue mini cooper and checking in with Lynn the receptionist at front desk before making her way to the elevators to get to floor three.Scarlett's memory fogged slightly as she turned the corner off the elevators in order to get to her office room but instead was greeted disrespectfully by three large men in balaclava's who pointed a gun at her and guided her to the center of floor three and demanded her to sit down and to shut-up.
Miss.Porter was interrupted from her recollection as Detective Caines returned with two mugs of piping hot coffee. The Detective pulled out a small recording device from the pocket of his pin-stripped trousers and began fidgeting with the buttons on it's silvery surface.
The Detective placed the recording device in the center of the table where it stared at Scarlett accusingly. The detective pressed the "REC" button and read allowed the date and Scarlett's name and date of birth and began the questioning process.
"Miss.Porter could you please tell us what time you arrived at work this morning?" Detective Caines asked clearly.
" I received a call from my boss at three this morning asking me if I could cover shift's for a fellow employee so I must of got there about four this morning".
The Detective continued to ask Scarlett work-based questions and she responded honestly without pause or hesitation for each question. Minutes ticked by like hours and without any reason or warning the detective began to change his pace.
"okay, Why did they release just you then?" The Detective spoke like the act was up , the game was over and expected Scarlett to confide everything to him but instead Scarlett looked away from the detective and her face morphed into a disgusted expression.
The Detective's eye's narrowed in on Scarlett and tried to contain his fury. Slowly the detective reached out across the table and turned the recorder off.
"That's how you wan't to play it, huh?" Detective Caines asked rhetorically.
The walls leaned in to listen. The Detective began to pace in frustration. The room felt more hostile now more than it ever had before.
"What did you offer them? cash? to win their case?" The Detective asked and walked right over to Scarlett and crouched down beside her.
In one sudden and reflex-like movement Scarlett grabbed her piping hot mug of coffee from the table and threw it directly at the Detective's face scolding his face to a shade of bright red. Scarlett searched through the Detective's pockets where she fount his keys, panic button and mobile phone. The detective burnt in pain on the floor in the corner of the room desperate to escape the pain.
Scarlett scurried over to the door where she tried several of the key's to lock the door and succeeded on her fourth attempt. She reached into her boot where she pulled out a silver-sharp kitchen knife and Scarlett's face twisted into a manic half-smile as she wiped the knife in her work suit and then dragged one of the chairs and sat on it backwards facing the Detective.
"Hello handsome" Scarlett smiled and laughed lightly.
"You bitch!" the detective exclaimed still writhing in pain.
" Actually, I think you'll find that your my bitch" Scarlett explained "... besides it's not like you didn't deserve it , you deserve much much worst in all honesty".
The detective's face sank to the ground as he understood what Scarlett had meant by he deserved worse.
"That was ten year's ago" he hushed violently.
"Yes, but he served seven years for something he didn't commit and you fed me false evidence that I showed in court, he was seventeen !" Scarlett told the detective with distaste.
Scarlett looked at the knife and said under her breath "solace" and lunged at the Detective implanting the knife through his chest causing blood to spritz the walls as he took his final breath.
Scarlett breathed heavily as the adrenaline coursed through her veins. She leaned over the deceased Detective's body and picked up the mobile phone. Scarlett leaned down to her boot's again and pulled out a small piece of paper which showed where the knife was hidden in the room (Which was under the table where she retrieved as the Detective left to get hot drinks) and a phone number at the bottom.
Shaking the paper as she shivered in disbelief of her actions Scarlett dialed the number on the phone.
The phone rang for a moment and then she heared a voice on the other end ask "well...did you do what was set?" the voice of a man sounded on the other end of the phone line.
Hesitantly Scarlett whimpered " Yes,Yes I killed him...I did it please just let them go I did as you wanted please!" . The phone cut off.
For the next few short-lived moments Scarlett sat in the opposite corner of the room as she weighed up the possibilities of getting arrested and the worth of her existence these thoughts came to a close when desperate aggressive banging from the door sounded. Scarlett came to a rash decision and pulled the knife from the detective's lifeless chest, closed her eyes , and plunged the knife directly into her heart.
As Scarlett final moment came to a close her eye's flickered just as the door to the interrogation room flew open darkness facades locking her into an eternal darkness as she took her final breath.
