No Angel

Part One

I watched as my father paced around my room frantically looking for something he wasn't going to find. As he noticed his five-thousand-dollar watch was not in my room, tears filled his eyes. My father was devastated because this was the last thing my mother bought him before she passed away last year. I sat on my bed in defeat because the watch also meant a lot to me.
As I looked at the clock on my wall I noticed that I was already thirty minutes late to school. I thought to myself isn't this a nice way to start my first day of senior year. As my dad left my room in search of the watch, I decided to get dressed before I was an hour late. I looked over my outfit in the mirror; I was sporting a white Burberry Shirt, the newest True Religion brand jeans, and my pure money 4s. I looked pretty good if I would say so myself.
After I said my goodbyes to my older sister Kehlani and my dad, I left the house. As I entered the garage, I decided to drive my new 2017 Matte Black Jeep Wrangler. My family is not rich; but, we're nowhere near broke. My mother Lailah was a surgeon and my father Odell is a quarterback in the NFL. My sister and I are set for life.
As I was driving, I decided that if I was going to be late, I might as well be super late; So I stopped at IHOP to get some pancakes. I ordered a short stack and a large orange juice; my food came about ten minutes later. Once I finished eating I left and headed to Grady High School: Home of the wannabe rappers, cosmetologist, MUA, and the drug dealers. I was going 80mph in a 60mph zone, blasting the Migos new album "Culture". Once I pulled into school, another car was pulling in and I sped past the car to get to the parking spot first.
Ajani Lyana
As tears rolled down my cheeks, I stared at the floor. My whole life was changed in a matter of a week and schools starting back already. I wasn't ready to face everyone; especially my ex-boyfriend Moriah. As I looked at my phone, I noticed I was forty minutes late to school. After I put my shoes on I looked in the mirror; I had my long curly hair in a half-up half-down style and a denim off-the-shoulder dress with my favorite yellow heels from Aldo.
As I was leaving the house, I opened the door to my daughter's room and woke her up. She stared at me with her big hazel eyes as she always does and then she started giggling. My daughter Ajah'nae is two years old; she's the best thing that has ever happened to me. Her father is no longer in her life anyways due to his actions. After I got Ajah'nae dressed I grabbed her diaper bag and locked the house up. I went a couple blocks down the street to my aunt's house to drop her off while I went to school and work for the day.
I took Ajah'nae out of her car seat, grabbed her diaper bag, and knocked on the door to my aunt's house. She immediately opened the door with a big smile and took Ajah'nae from me and wished me luck for my first day back to school. My aunt is a lot of help when it comes to me or my child's needs. My mother is no longer in my life due to her drug addiction, so I needed as much support as I could get. My father is currently incarcerated for twenty-five more years. My aunt Tasha and Ajah'nae are all I've got left.
I got in the car and turned on Chris Brown's new song "Privacy". After ten minutes of driving, I pulled into the parking lot and a car came speeding in ahead of me, taking my parking spot. I decided against getting mad and I pulled into a different spot. Me and the other person got out our cars at the same time. His car was luxury compared to my old 2015 baby blue Audi i8. I walked up to him to confront him.
As I was walking into the school I tapped his shoulder and he turned to look at me. "You parked in my designated parking spot." I said. He took off his sunglasses and stared in my eyes for what felt like forever. "I apologize, I didn't know. Are you new here?" he said looking at me full of lust. "No, I've been in your class since freshman year, thanks for noticing. Next time, don't park in my spot." I said sarcastically walking into my third period class.
Kieran Turner
As I was walking into the school a familiar girl tapped my shoulder. I turned around and took off my shades and looked into her eyes waiting for her to talk. Her dark skin was beautiful and she looked like she was around 5'7 with nice curly hair and she definitely knew how to dress. I was staring at her for what felt like forever, when she confronted me about her parking space. I apologized and asked if she was a new student because I don't remember seeing her at school before. She answered sarcastically and walked away dramatically which made me laugh. That's when I remembered she was the girl who got pregnant at the end of freshman year; I've always wanted to know her story.
As I walked into my third period class, everyone stared at me. I greeted the teacher Ms. Alice and dapped up all my friends then I scanned the room to find a seat. I looked towards the back and noticed the girl from earlier looking at me. I took my seat next to her and she quickly turned her head and acted like she was on her phone. The teacher gave us a free period because it's the first day and she was done explaining the rules and expectations.
I was talking to my friend Jaylan when he said, "Who's that?" I looked around confused "Who?" "You know; the girl you keep looking at." he said laughing. "I don't know her but I'm about to change that." I said walking away. "She gonna blow you off, try again next time youngin." he yelled now jumping in his seat laughing. "Nah, bet. I'm bouta show you." I said with too much confidence. He laughed as I walked over to her and he told the rest of my friends to watch.
As I tapped her shoulder, she looked at me confused. "Hey, what's your name?" I said trying to make conversation. "I'm Ajani and I'm not interested I know your type goodbye now." she said all in one breath dismissing me. I tried to speak again but she cut me off, "Walk away now before I embarrass you." I quickly walked away and went back to my friends who were rolling on the floor and hollering acting a damn fool.
I smacked my teeth and rolled my eyes in annoyance. "She'll come around, yall need to fall back aint nothing funny."
"Yea AINT NOTHING funny." My friend Jayla said laughing hard again. I was about to say something when the bell rung, so I got my stuff to go and headed to my locker.
I was walking to my locker when I noticed Ajani and this boy Moriah were arguing in the hallway. At this point, everyone was watching and then Moriah raised his hand to hit her. I ran like Usain Bolt to stop him. Once I got to him, I pushed him into the locker holding him by his neck and screamed, "Don't ever raise your hand to a female, don't act like you're going to raise your hand to a female, and don't even play like you're going to raise your hand to a female. I will punch you so hard you'll be in a body bag before you turn eighteen do you understand me." He looked at me with fearful eyes and stuttered "I understand." I nodded my head towards Ajani and he caught the hint and quickly apologized then ran out the front doors of the school.
As I turned around to comfort, Ajani I seen her speed walking down the hallway. I quickly ran after her grabbing her wrist; I stared into her eyes and she stared back and all I could see was pain. I pulled her into a hug and whispered, "Let's go talk, meet me in the computer lab." She just simply walked to the computer lab and I met her there after I got passes from our teachers.
Once I made it to the computer lab, I locked the doors and I took a seat next to her.
"You can vent whenever you're ready. I'm listening." I said with my hand on her shoulder. "I barely know you but I feel safe around you." she blurted.
Ajani Lyana
I looked at Kieran one more time before letting everything out. "Well it all goes back to freshman year when I met Moriah. I thought we were in love; we had dated in middle school all the way to freshman year. I thought it was meant to be until the day he betrayed my trust. After the freshman homecoming dance, he had sex with me and never spoke to me again. That was the worse pain I had ever felt. Then after two months of being in denial, I found out I was pregnant with my beautiful daughter Ajah'nae. Moriah decided he didn't want to be in her life or mine, so I figured there was no reason to beg him and let him go on with his life. Once sophomore year began, my mom had her first drug overdose. Ever since then, she was never the same; She barely comes home anymore and I have to pay the bills. By the middle of junior year, I lost my best friend and my brother who were shot at a party. Finally, the summer of junior year I made a horrible decision. I was not paying attention and I went to work and left the dryer on. The house burned down with everything in it including all my money. I had to work my ass off all summer to save up for a new house and clothes. Since I couldn't always hang out with my friends they basically divorced me this summer, which just put the cherry on top of the whole situation. Also I just found out my daughter who means everything to me has cancer and Moriah refuses to help pay for chemo." I said with tears falling down my cheeks.
I put my head down as Kieran rubbed my back and told me it would get better, but in reality I knew that was a lie. We were sitting in that same position for an hour now and I looked at him. "Tell me something about you."
He looked at me with a surprised face and said, "Well... my family is pretty regular other than the fact that my dad is famous and it's really hard sometimes to deal with the constant attention, not that I should be complaining. My mother died last year while saving my life. I was walking in the street on my phone when a car came flying directly towards me. My mom ran into the street pushing me out of the way just before the car could hit me; however, she couldn't get herself out of the way quick. We found out the driver was drunk and had a warrant out for his arrest." I raised my eyebrows surprised, "I am so sorry." He looked at me with a tear falling down his face and said, "It's okay." I wiped his tear and hugged him; I felt so safe and comfortable in his arms.
I looked up at the clock and mumbled, "Shit." He looked at me confused and I quickly said, "I have to pick up my daughter and go to work." While walking out. "Okay I'll walk you to your car," he said. When we got to the front of the school, we checked out and I walked to my car. He opened the door for me and said "Bye." As he was walking away, I was trying to start my car but it wouldn't start. I quickly got out the car and screamed, "Wait! My car isn't working can you give me a ride?" He turned around and said, "Yes."
Once I got in his car, I looked around in awe at the all blue interior. I gave him directions to my aunt's house and we just rode. The car ride was silent but it wasn't awkward. When we pulled up to my aunt's house, I thanked him for the ride. He looked at me confused and said, "You don't want me to drive you to work?" I quickly replied, "No, no offense but I don't feel comfortable bringing my daughter around people other than family and close friends." He looked taken back by my response and said, "Okay." Right when I was about to get out the car he grabbed my wrist and I turned around and said, "Yes?" "Can I at least get your number?" He said sounding scared of my response. "Yea its 678-999-8212 but I have to go now. Thank you for everything." I said while getting out the car.
When I got inside my aunt's house I went straight to the kitchen. I got out some pizza rolls and I put them in the microwave for two minutes. While they cooked I walked to my aunt's room to check on my baby. I walked in and Ajah ran towards me smiling. "Hi mommy's baby!" I said smiling. She started smiling and spoke slowly "Ma-Ma." I played with her hair until my aunt walked in. I got up and quickly hugged my aunt while holding Ajah. "Hi auntie how was your day?" I said siting on her bed. "Good I had fun with Ajah'nae today. We went to get ice cream and I took her to the park. What about you?" My aunt said smiling.
"Well Moriah was pissed about the fact that I'm putting him on child support. On the other hand, I met a boy today named Kieran and he's really nice." I said smiling. "Well Moriah is just going to have to deal with it and tell me more about this Kieran boy." She said looking shocked that I was talking about a boy. "Well I don't know much about him but today we talked for hours and I feel like we were connected in a way." I said chuckling at the thought. My aunt looked at me smiling "That's good, but are you sure you're ready to talk to a boy on that level again." "Yes I've thought it over and I can't just end my life because of what Moriah did to me." I said seriously. "Okay I just want what's best for you." My aunt said hugging me.
After we finished talking I turned on the TV. We were watching Empire when I noticed I left my pizza rolls in the microwave. As I was eating I noticed it was time for me to go to work. I hugged my aunt and Ajah goodbye as I walked to my house to change into my work clothes.
I was at work in about 15 minutes and luckily my boss wasn't mad that I was late. Once my shift was done I walked to my aunt's house. Thankfully it is only a 5-minute walk from my job. Once I got to my aunt's house I picked up Ajah'nae and walked home. Once I got home I gave Ajah a shower and put her to bed. Once she was settled I got in the shower and just thought over the events that happened today.
Kieran Turner
After I dropped off Ajani at her aunt's house I decided to stop at dairy queen. As I walked into dairy queen I seen Jayla was working at cash register. "Wassup lil jay" I said smiling at my longtime friend. "Nothing much, what you want?" she said laughing. "Let me get a chocolate extreme blizzard with a side of cookie dough. "I said. "Ok that'll be 5.99." she said. "Alright keep the change." I said giving her $15 and walking away to sit down. When my blizzard was ready I said goodbye to Jayla and got in my car.
When I got home I walked back to my sister's room. "Wassup sis." I said sitting on her bed. "Hey, how was school?" She said as she looked up at me." Good, I met a girl named Ajani. She's so unique, you know what, she reminds me of mama" I said thinking. My sister raised her eyebrows in shock and my father walked in. "I found the watch... wait why she look so shook?" my dad said confused. "Because my baby brother actually likes a girl and he said she's like mama." My sister said happily as she looked at me. "What's her name?" my dad said looking at me. "Ajani" I said smiling. "Well, the way you smiled when you said her name tells me that you must like her. If you do decide to date her make sure you're ready to be committed." He said looking at me seriously. "I know." I said walking out.
1 month later...
Today is me and Ajani's first date. I'm nervous as hell because I don't know how her mean ass is going to react. Lately me and her have been talking a lot well, damnnear all day and night. As I looked at the time on my phone I decided to text Ajani.
Good morning Jani you ready for tonight?
As I waited for a response I got in the shower. I was drying off when I see Ajani finally responded.
Good morning ugly and definitely.
Once I got dressed I headed to my barber's house. "Wassup bro." I said as I dapped up my barber. "Nothing much, you want the regular?" he said getting his clippers ready. "Nah I'm thinking about going low with some 360 waves." I said sitting down. "Aright bet." he said getting started.
"Damn I look good" I said laughing as I looked in the mirror. "Alright conceded you need to run me my money" he said laughing at my childishness. "Here" I said handing him $50 and leaving. "Aright bro thanks." He said closing the door once I left. When I got home I took a shower again and started getting dressed.
Ajani Turner
I was feeding Ajah'nae when Kieran texted me. I smiled at his text and quickly responded. Today we're going on a date but he won't tell me where we're going with his petty ass. After Ajah was done eating I took her over to my aunt's house. "Thank you so much for watching her today auntie." I said sitting on her couch. "No problem but hurry up go get pretty." She said dismissing me.
I got in my car and drove to the hair salon. I decided on straightening my hair for the first time. When she was done with my hair I looked in the mirror and laughed. "Oh bitch I'm draping on these hoes." I said when I noticed my hair went down to my butt. The hairstylist laughed at me then she rung me up. "Thank you again." I said handing her $60.
When I got in the car I wrapped my hair up and drove to the nail salon down the street. I walked in and seen that one of my friends from school. After I told the nail technician what I wanted I took a seat next to my friend. "Hey Jon'Dai what you up to?" I said looking at him. "Nothing girl I've just been stressed, so I decided to have me a girl's day." He said looking at his nails. When I was about to respond his nail technician mumbled something under her breath. Jon'Dai looked at me then her with a surprised face said "Lady I know you aint talking shit in Chinese, ill beat your ass." The lady quickly apologized and I laughed lowly. Once my nails were done I went home to get dressed for the night. I'm wearing a baby doll pink bodycon dress with my new sparkly red bottom heels.
I was putting my shoes on when I heard a knock at the door. I smiled as I opened the door to Kieran holding 2 dozen blue roses. I let him in so he could put them in water before we left. When he was done he walked to the car with me. "You look amazing." He said smiling like a little kid at the candy store. "Thank you, I like the new hair." I said getting in the car. He drove my favorite car of his; the 2017 all gold BMW i8. Once he got in the car he put a blindfold on me. "Why can't I see?" I said complaining. "Girl just wait." He said smacking his teeth. We just talked for about 20 more minutes.
"Were here." He said taking off my blindfold. As I looked around I seen a baby blue helicopter. "Oh my fucking gosh" I said jumping up and down. "Thank the lord you like it." He said looking relived. After they told us all the rules and regulations we got on the helicopter. While we were in the air I couldn't do anything but smile. We had the perfect view of Atlanta.
Once we got off the plane I hugged Kieran and thanked the pilot. He opened the door for me and I got in the car. About five minutes later we pulled up to a restaurant called Polaris. When we walked in it was empty. "Why is no one here?" I asked confused. "Because I rented it out for just us." He said holding my hand. I simply nodded my head as I looked around. We were about 550ft in the air and the view was amazing.
Once we sat down I just stared at Kieran. "This is amazing Kieran." I said smiling. "I love seeing you smile." He said. We were talking about the view when the food came. I got Shrimp Pad Thai and Kieran got Filet Mignon.  As I was eating I noticed someone walking on the stage in front of us. I almost choked on my shrimp when I noticed Bryson tiller was the one who walked on the stage. I stared at Kieran in shock as he said "I know you love his music so I had to get him to sing."  Bryson started singing my favorite song "Let em Know".

When he was done I clapped and thanked him for coming. "Anytime." He said smiling and walking to the back. When we finished eating I just looked out the windows at the view. When I turned to look at Kieran I noticed he was on his knee.
Kieran Turner
I bought Ajani a promise ring. I want her to know that I'm different and that I promise to never leave her and stay by her side no matter what. "I have more issues then I could possibly count. And on my worse days, I'll go from happy to sad in seconds. I won't always like myself, and sometimes I'll even assume you don't like me either. I'll push you away and I might even drive you insane. But I promise you this, I'll always love you and keep you around. If you just give me a chance to." I said getting down on one knee. "Yes I'll give you a chance." Ajani said on the verge of tears. As I put the 24 karat ring on her finger I slowly kissed her.
After ten minutes of taking pictures we left. On the ride back to Ajani's house she fell asleep. Once we pulled up to her house I woke her up and opened the door for her. I helped her to the door and asked "where's the key." "Just knock my aunts here." She said. I knocked and her aunt opened the door holding a baby. "Hi mommy's baby." Ajani said taking the baby I'm guessing is Ajah'nae from her and walking in the house.
Her aunt just looked at me and said "If you plan on breaking her heart you might as well leave now. I will kill you my damn self if I hear that you did anything to her. She's been through hell and back dealing with yall little boys." I looked at her seriously and said "No disrespect but if I planned on hurting her I wouldn't have spent that much money today. I really like your niece and I respect her and I plan on keeping it that way." "Okay, you can come in to say your goodbyes." She said opening the door.
I walked into the living room seeing Ajani and her daughter sitting down. You could tell Ajani loved her child with all her heart by just looking at them together. "Ajah say hi to mommy's boyfriend." Ajani said pointing to me. I just looked at Ajah as she ran towards me so I could pick her up. "Hell-wo" she said looking at me. "Hello." I said looking back.
While I was playing with Ajah'nae Ajani's aunt came so she could put Ajah to bed. "Thank you auntie" Ajani said looking at her. "I guess this is goodnight." I said hugging Ajani. "Goodnight, thank you for everything" Ajani said kissing me. "This was a good day." I said to myself.
5 months later...
Every month on our anniversary I take her to a restaurant in a different state. We've been to New York, California, Texas, and Virginia. This month I'm taking her to Florida. Ajah has been really sick lately and chemo hasn't helped so, Ajani doesn't want to leave her. I decided to just bring Ajah'nae on the trip.
When I got to Ajani's house I helped put Ajah and Ajani's bags in the car. I drove ten minutes to the airport. The flight was only two hours and they fell asleep the first fifteen minutes. When we arrived I helped Ajani and Ajah into the car that was waiting for us. When we got to my beach house, I carried Ajani, Ajah, and the bags into the house. They woke up about fifty minutes later.
"Happy Anniversary baby" I said when Ajani woke up. "Happy Anniversary Sugar Cakes" Ajani said kissing all over my face. "Don't start with that shit" I said stale facing Ajani. We finally stopped arguing over the nickname and decided to go out to the beach.
Ajani got Ajah ready and I grabbed the bags with the food. As we were walking on the beach I found a good spot to set up. I put the towels down, made a fire with some sticks, and laid the food out. When I was done I looked out in the distance at Ajani playing with Ajah. I smiled at the sight; I really love that girl.

One month later...
"Kieran still didn't ask me to prom" I said sadly walking to lunch room. "You know he's going to ask your big head ass to prom stop whining." Jon'Dai said rolling his eyes. I knew we were going together but I still wanted him to ask.
"See this is what I want." I said pouting looking around the cafeteria. There was a banner hanging from the ceiling that said "Prom?" and there were blue balloons everywhere. I finally snapped out of it when I noticed I was no longer with Jon'Dai; I was alone and everyone was looking at me. When Bryson tiller came out singing "Exchange" I noticed this was for me. Six girls came out behind him dancing and holding signs. Once he stopped singing they turned their signs over one by one. I read them all "Check the front of the school." I got up and walked to the front of the school while everyone followed. I looked around and seen Kieran in front of a new 2017 matte black Lamborghini Aventador. He had 6 dozen roses around him and two boxes. I opened the boxes: one had a Chanel purse and the other one had two backstage passes to the Future concert.  "Ajani Will you go to prom with me?" he said smiling. "Yes" I said now in full blown tears. "Your keeping all this stuff don't tell me to return it" Kieran said hugging me. Everybody started clapping and cheering us on.
The rest of the day at school was just regular. Every time I would get on any social media I would just see my promposal being reposted so I decided to get off for the day. Now it's time to prepare because prom is only a month and a half away.
Jayla Koriyan
I stared at them full of anger. He picked her over me? She gets this luxury life and he has only known her for a couple months. I've been with him through everything. I always come in last place but I refuse this time.
"Hey do you know anything about her." I said to Moriah pointing to Ajani. He looked at me confused "Yeah why?"" No reason she just seems so perfect like she has no problems." I said trying to get him to tell me something. "Well shes perfect but her family isn't. Her mama is a crackhead and her dad Adrian is in jail" he said. "Why is her dad in jail?" I said now interested. "ion know" he said. With that i walked away to find out more information. I went to the computer lab to search up her father. I opened my eyes up in shock. "Adrian Lyana kills Odell Turner's Wife Lilah Turner in a hit and run." I read out loud to make sure it was real. When the bell rung and i texted kieran.
Meet me at my house it's really important!
As i got in my car he responded.

I smiled at the text and headed home. Me and Kieran pulled up at the same time. I put on a sad face to break the news. "What's wrong?" he said sounding concerned. "You know how Ajani's dad is in jail" i said. "Yes, why?" he said confused. "She was telling me why an-and she said he killed your mom. She knew all along and didn't tell you. Shes probably just using you for your money." I said fake crying. He never replied and just got in his car and sped away. I smiled because my plan was working. Ajani will be out the picture very soon.
Kieran Turner
I was pissed. I sped down the street to Ajani's house. I banged on her door and she quickly opened it. "Damn why- wait what's wrong?" she said confused. "You knew this whole time you knew." i said now furious. "I knew what?" she said still confused. "Your dad killed my mom. You fucking knew. I wondered what else you know. You were probably using me this whole damn time." I said now yelling full of rage. "I swear I didn't know. I promise Kieran i didn't know. I don't even talk to him!" she said crying. "You a damn lie." i said walking away. She ran after me but i just pulled off almost hitting her.
She constantly called and texted me but i just blocked her. I walked into the house and slammed the door. My dad and sister came out of the kitchen confused. "Whats wrong?" my sister said sounding concerned. "Nothing. Tell your friend asia to come slide i need to relieve some stress." i said to Kehlani. "What happened to Ajani?" she said sounding hurt. "Fuck her" i said angrily.
Ajani Lyana
I cried on the floor as Jon'Dai and my aunt tried to comfort me. "He wouldn't even listen to me." I said crying. "Somebody uglyass kid set you up." Jon'Dai said mad. "If he's really the one he'll come around." my aunt said trying to make me feel better. "Mama it's okay" Ajah said hugging me. My aunt and Jon'Dai decided to spend the night with me. When my aunt and Ajah'nae fell asleep me and Dai decided to go by Kieran's house.
When we pulled up all the lights were on so i hopped Kieran was here. I knocked and Kehlani opened the door. "Oh shi- Hey Jani." she said sounding scared. "Hey I was wondering if i could talk to Kieran." I said. "Yea hold on." she said about to call his name but him and a girl walked out of his room. He looked at me and i couldn't do anything but cry. "Ajani it's not what you think." he said looking at me. "Kieran i'm not going to let you lie to her." Kehlani said looking sad. I just simply walked away because i obviously he's not worried about me anymore. As i was getting in the car Dai got out ready to fight Kieran and the girl. Me and kehlani had to hold him back.
