A More Serious Topic (though, knowing me, there will still be bad jokes)

This chapter is more serious, also I might use a swear. Sorry. I think it was needed.

So in the last chapter I mentioned how much I love wattpad. But to introduce this topic I'm going going to tell you more (cause you all just love hearing about me).

I love to write. I love the way words can make you feel things, like music. I love the chaos of it, how each word is unique and a land of possibility unto its self, how when you put them together a certain way they just sound so right. I love how you can make your reader think they are the character and maybe, if only just for a moment, forget the world around them and just be free.

My problem was the writing itself. I had all these little worlds tucked up in my head that, while enjoyable to think about, didn't belong there. I couldn't just write them down, there was no one to read them, so I kept them up there and forgot about them. I forgot writing.

Then my friend introduced me to wattpad. All of her friends were on it, and there was a growing, thriving community of fellow writers and readers, at least a million strong. Now as I go to sleep I am thinking of what to write next. I am not reliving worlds of the past, but instead making new ones. I scramble furiously for my phone to write down the perfect phrase that I just pictured two hours after I should have been asleep

So imagine my dismay when I see wattpad isn't being used like that. I don't see new worlds, new stories. I see petty arguments.

I am disappointed. When one or two people do this it takes that feeling of freedom and community away. Everyone has something to say, but it's no longer about their experiences or their protagonist's newest challenge. It's about who is a liar. It's about who is better. Who did what. Why someone did something. And pretty quickly even those answers and insults are blown out of proportion, until it all just snowballs. Until people aren't even trying to solve a problem, they are just trying to get the last word in.

People are writing books, publishing reviews, creating a whole new story just to insult someone you know. And that's the worst part. You see the people every day. You see the people every day. YOU SEE THE PEOPLE EVERY FREAKING DAY!

It's not like you need to communicate that way, with openly published books. Even if you were to keep it on wattpad there is this thing called private messages. It lets you talk to people...privately. Woah.

But you shouldn't even do that. Hiding behind a screen might be easier but you can't get anything done. Since you a) know the person b) see the person on a regular basis and c) have the ability and the free time to at least attempt to resolve your problems, that's what you should do. Sit and just say what you mean.

Or don't take my advice. Continue to trade insults and swears until you are old and grey but, and I mean this, do not put it here. Do not ruin this platform for all of us because you can't talk to each other in person.

In other words, and I don't mean to be crass but...

Take your bullshit off wattpad.

Well, that was fun. Sorry about that, I really needed to get that off my chest.

A HUGE thanks to Artsybookworm18 she is the friend who introduced me to wattpad. I wouldn't be who I am without her (not just because of the wattpad thing) so...

Thank you.

You've reached the end of published parts.
