Running. Running as fast as I can. I look in front of me. I look to both of my sides. There are three ways I can run to escape. I try going through the first pathway directly in front of me. I sprint past every guard. I turn each corner swiftly. I run for what seems like forever, just to end up exactly where I started. That means I have to go either left or right. I make a sudden turn to the left. I run through each hallway and end up in the same place. That means the only option left is to go down the right hallway. The same thing. I am at the beginning again. What the hell is going on? THUD! THUD! THUD! If I can't go through the three path ways, then where am I going to go? I can't go back. Wait? Can I? THUD! THUD! THUD! It's the only chance I have of escaping. I grab the only gun I have and turn around in one swift movement. I take a deep breath and then set my mind. I have to do this. It's the only way out. I hear the banging sound one more time and then I start sprinting all the way back to where I came from. It looks like I'm Traversed.
As I continue running I start hearing dripping water. The closer I get to the sound the more the water sounds rougher. Almost as if.... My eyes grow wide as I realize I am running towards a water scape. I run even faster and before I know what I'm doing, my feet push me off the edge and I'm falling down. Then black. I let my eyes adjust and register my surroundings. I'm in my room which means it was just a dream. My heart is still pounding and my head still spinning from my dream. I feel like my dream means something. Like it is trying to tell me something. My gut instincts are telling me it is a sign of some sort. I have been having the same dream for months now, but more frequently latley. I decide to get up and clean my room since I won't be falling asleep anytime soon. I get off my bed and start to walk over to the light switch. Thmp Ouch! That hurt. I am now currently lying on the floor after falling face first. What did I ever do to that stupid book? I got up and picked up the book then spanked it. "Don't ever do that to me again or i'll burn you! Do you understand?" I stared at the book for a minute and then found sympathy. "Ok maybe I won't burn you but you will be in a hella lot of trouble." Now you are probably sitting there thinking I'm some weirdo for talking to a book, right? Well I just do it on habit. Any ways, I walked over to the door and turned on the light switch.
I started picking up my cloths and throwing them in a hamper when I came in front of my mirror. I stood there and looked at my reflection. I have light green eyes and dark brown hair. I'm pretty short standing at 5ft 3in. I have an even complexion with tan skin. Over all I'm just average. I stood there and stared at myself for a few minutes until someone knocked on my door. I looked at my clock and saw that it was 3:00 a.m. I yelled a quick 'come in' and my sister came in. My twin sister Lennon is identical to me except she dyes her hair blond. She is my best friend and top priority next to my brother who has brown hair like all of us except he has big brown eyes. My brother Asher is 7 years old while my sister and I are 18 years old. My mom named us with names that are from the old world. Before the war, everything was free and people were able to be themselves and make their own decisions and not just behind closed doors. If someone has committed a crime or spoke wrongly about the government then they were executed immediately. A person couldn't even deny or lie about it because there are advanced scanners that will detect any lie of any sort. The government also has the power to change someone completely if they had 'good' reason. One other power the government has is the ability to control someone's actions and mind if they are a great value and had done something wrong. "So what are you doing up at this hour?" My sister's voice broke me out of my train of thoughts. I looked up at her for a brief moment "I can ask you the same thing" I looked at her and raised an eyebrow challengingly. I have always been the adventurous one out of the two of us. My sister is the one that always studies and reads. She is the more shy and calm twin. I have her to keep me tamed and she has me to push her out of her comfort zone. She blushed and shook her head. "I was just reading before I go to bed."
"Sis, its 3 o'clock in the morning. What do you mean 'before you go to bed'?" I questioned and she just threw a pillow at my face. "Okay maybe I didn't go to sleep, but why are you awake?" I shifted my gaze down at the floor and Lennon was now genuinely curios. "I had the dream again." She looked surprised at first and then as soon as she recovered she asked if I thought it meant something. "I'm not sure but maybe."
"Oh, well if they are happening more often it probably means the event is closer."
"Probably." I said with the shrug of my shoulders. You see, most people in the society today don't think like our family. My mom's parents were able to seek hideout when the soldiers and government attacked the citizens to erase there memories of the old world and fill them with the rules and history of the new one. When my grandparents came back to the city, everything was different so they acted as everyone else but passed on the traditions of the old world onto my mom and Aunt Attalina. That is why we don't act or think like most teenagers our age.
BANG! BANG! BANG! I jumped onto my sister and gestured for her to go under my bead. She nodded and got to the floor to crawl over there. I walked on my knees so I couldn't be seen and turned off the light. I then crawled over to sit next to my bed. We sat there what seemed like forever until we heard movement, then voices, then a scream. Oh no! This cannot be happening! I would know that scream anywhere. ASHER! BANG! BANG! We heard a thud and I almost screamed a sob. I looked over at Lennon and she was quietly crying and looking at the door. I needed to go down and see what was going on. I needed to see Asher.
I told my sister I was gonna go and see what was happening downstairs and see who was intruding our home. Her eyes got wide but she nodded. I told her to stay there and she nodded yet again. I swiftly got up to my feet and silently made my way to the door. I opened it wincing at the creaks it made when I opened it. I then slowly made my way down the hall and then downstairs. As I continued to walk I heard voices so I hid behind a corner.
I would recognize that voice anywhere. President Nicholas. I listened into the conversation. "We got the little boy but we still need to kill their mother Aniston, Athena and Lennon. But right now we have to go before the officers' show up with truth scanners. We can't get caught if we want to complete our purpose and move forward with the plan. Let's go, we will just have to come back later, and soon." I heard shuffling and then the front door open and close shut. After a few minutes of waiting to be safe, I ran into the front room to find my 7 year old brother lying lifelessly on the floor surrounded by a puddle of blood.
I sprinted over to him like my life depended on it and knelt down next to him to see if he was breathing. No. I then checked to see if he held a pulse. None. I couldn't hold it back any more. I burst out in tears, screaming and sobbing as I held his lifeless body on my lap. "Please come back" I cried so much it hurt. "Please come back brother. I love you Asher. I don't know what to do without you. Please don't leave me! Please don't leave us!" I herd shuffling behind me but couldn't turn around. I didn't have the strength. A few moments later my sister was kneeling next to me rubbing his hair and sobbing too. The door bust open wide and the police stepped inside.
They started asking us questions we were to hysterical to even nod so we didn't reply. Then they started asking if we had anything to do with his death. When an officer asked that, all of the blood in my veins boiled in anger. How can someone accuse us of that? Did he think we were that heartless? I started yelling profanities and then before I knew it I was on the floor. All I could see were the blurry outlines of my broken family and the officers standing above me and then everything went black. There was no sound. There was no happiness. The only thing left right now was the sorrow of losing my brother. The pain of a broken heart. The hatred that was never there before.
