Sorry about disappearing, my exams are next week but after that I should be back to a normal update schedule for a while.

Oh yeah, you guys probably picked up in this, but I forgot to tell you. As you can probably tell by the tone of this book, the themes will be a lot darker, and there will be a lot more swearing and such. If you're afraid that something may trigger you, check the tags before you read each new chapter, as I will update them as I go ^^

Kaine's POV
"Come here, boy" my father smirked, beckoning for Sam to go over to him. Sam looked at me with teary eyes. We both knew what was coming, me moreso than him.

"Please father, I'll do it! I'll be your good boy! Please leave Sam out of this" I begged, grabbing onto Sam's hand to stop him going over to our father.

"Shut your mouth, brat. Your brother needs to learn to be a good boy too, and I can't teach him if my other greedy little whore keeps getting in the way!"

"Please father! I'm your good boy! You've spoilt me rotten, it's your fault that I crave your attention!" I begged, knowing exactly how to push his buttons to distract him.

After all, I am his 'good boy', I thought bitterly.

"I'm sorry Sammy, but your greedy slut of a brother is demanding my attention. That means I'll have to play with him instead of you again today, okay? You'll get your turn eventually though, I promise"

"Go back upstairs, Sam" I told him, offering a small, forced smile.

~~~
After father was done with me, I limped back to mine and Sam's room. Taking a deep breath, I plastered a fake smile onto my face before entering the room.
I found he was already asleep in bed. Planting a kiss on his forehead before leaving, I stripped and headed to the shower.
I'm filthy, dirty, used, tarnished, impure, unclean... but at least I can save Sam from the same fate, even if it is at my own expense. He's the one thing in this world that is precious to me.
'Hey, big brother?" Sam mumbled as I was towelling my hair dry. Glancing over, I saw he'd just woken up again, by the way he was rubbing his eyes.
"Hm?"
"I... I saw"
I stared at him, stunned. "What are you talking about, Sam?"
"I didn't head upstairs straight away, I needed... I needed to know what that b-bastard does to you, what you always save me from"
It was then that I realised he hadn't been rubbing his eyes because he'd just woken up. He'd been crying.
"Hey, it's okay Sam. You're okay. I promise I'll never let him hurt you, I swear it" I said fiercely, coming to sit by him so I could hug him. It pains me that he saw that, that I couldn't protect him properly.
"I- I can't, Kaine. I can't handle knowing he hurts you that badly. P- please, we need to run a-away!"
"No, Sam. We can't do that. If we run, he'll just track us down. He'll hurt our friends. He'll hurt Jasmine"
"So, w-what do we do, big brother?"
I ruffled his hair, pulling him close. "You don't need to worry, Sam. Your big brother will handle it"
"Can I at least tend to your back? I have some medical herbs and dressings" Sam pleaded, looking up at me with big, wide eyes.
"If it'd put you at ease" I sighed, giving in before I'd even tried to fight him. When Sam looks at you like that, you're hopelessly under his influence. I'm yet to meet someone who can say no to his big puppy dog eyes.
I stripped of the clean shirt I'd just put on and sat on the bed, waiting for Sam to come back with the herbs and bandages.
The first indicator of his presence was a gasp. The sound tugged at my heart, knowing him seeing me like this was hurting him.
"This might hurt a little, the claw marks are pretty deep, and the whip gashes are oozing" he murmured and he applied the herbs.
I hissed in pain, but remained as still and quiet as possible. Partially to make the process easier for him, but partially because he looks up to me. I'm his big brother, so I must stay strong, no matter what hell I'm put through. Besides, this is nothing compared to the horrors I'd endured at the hands of my own father.
Phoenix's POV
When I woke up, I was greeted by Kaine's sleeping face. Though it wasn't the usually peaceful face of a sleeping person.
Tears stained his cheeks, and his face was scrunched up, an expression of pure agony and sadness painted on his sharp features.
"No... please... I'm begging you... don't touch me!" He cried, his body writhing.
A wave of pity washed over me. Whatever nightmare he's stuck in, it must be pretty horrible. Maybe I should wake him?
I debated my options for a little while, before deciding it'd be best to wake him.
"Hey, Kaine?" I tried, shaking him gently. He flinched away from my touch, but didn't wake.
"Hey! Wake up!" I yelled, shaking him more vigorously. I knew this would be a perfect chance to run away, but I couldn't bring myself to leave someone who was suffering like this, even if they are the one that kidnapped me.
Eventually, he woke with a start. His eyes were unfocused as they landed on me, and he immediately scrambled off the bed, missing his footing as he tried to stand. He fell in a heap on the floor, his body shaking.
"Please not again! Stay back!"
"Kaine?" I questioned, watching carefully as his eyes slowly became focused again, trained on me. "Um, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, just a nightmare" he muttered. "No need to sound so concerned, warlock"
"Well excuse me for worrying! I could be miles away from here by now if I wasn't such a nice person, you know!" I yelled as he flipped me off and slammed the bathroom door.
"Don't worry. He's always hard to deal with in the mornings"
I jumped in fright at the voice that piped up from behind me. I spun round, to see the boy from yesterday stood in the doorway.
