"Urm sir" I ask politely
"Have I actually got the right ticket for the platform I'm going to Vancouver"
" here let me see" the ticket man asked taking the bright orange tickets checking where I was heading
"Yes ma'am that's correct your train will arrive here in 7 minutes" he said checking his watch
"Thank you so much" I say sighing of relief taking the tickets back
I shove them into the back pocket of my black skinny jeans and put my hands into my jackets pockets too I stand waiting on the platform...
Oh shit I forgot I never really introduced myself I'm Zara I'm 19 and I'm going to university yayyy well I mean I'm excited but also so shit scared because I come from a smallish town in Canada and there's like not many people and I got into the best college in Vancouver I mean I hope I like it I'm getting the train there because theirs some shorty induction day I think that means like come for a day and see what the college is like but yeah I'm nervous to travel alone cause I've never seen so many people around in my life but I have to I mean I am 19 I'm not a kid anymore. Well as much as I try to tell my mum that she still thinks of me as her baby, I'm the only child so let's just say she's overprotective and I hate to say it because Im a girl it doesn't exactly work in my favour the things I want to do ughh I hate that why can't boys and girl just be equal.
My mum had brought me up as a single mum since I was 7 so I only knew my dad for a few years he went to Oman for work but he still comes and visits when he can I mean I'm not saying my mum and dad have split up but they still make it work from afar he has a big job so he doesn't hesitate to help us with our income here in Canada and as for mum she's a florist she just owns a small shop where she makes bouquets for event, weddings you name it!
"PLATFORM 4 TO VANCOUVER THATS PLATFORM 4 TO VANCOUVER" the speaker informed over the buzz of people
"That's me"I say to myself I stepped on taking a seat on the Royal Navy velvet charts setting my mulberry branded side bag down taking off my coat I never liked sitting in a four seater so I made my way into a 2. I got my phone out and plugged in my headphones I mean the journey wasn't too long as it was 9:35 now aabd I had to be their at 11:30 so I was okay for time ...
(1 hour and 35 min time skip)
The train was stopping at each stop till we teacher Vancouver we only had a few mins so I started packing my stuff away
I got out and headed to the university it was only a few minutes away by walking but slowly I could feel the butterflies build up in my stomach, I approached the large brown building which held acres of grass around it with pink flower bushes put sporadically the place was huge and it didn't help that there were at least 300 people here queuing up chatting to one another ready for the day
I queued up in line taking my phone out to message my mum
Me : I'm here mum safe and sound😂💖
Mum: okay good have fun and stay away from any weird people
I chuckled at my mums reply and locket my phone
Slowly the line started to cut down with everyone gathering their name tags on their lanyards making their way through the entrance
"Name" the woman asked who sat with her glasses down the bridge of her nose
"Zara ,Zara Menk" I said loudly so that she could hear
"Oh yes studying a bachelors in chemistry that's engineering course right" she asked smiling warmly
"Yeah" I said breathing lightly
"Here you go" she said handing me the name card on the long purple lanyard that I put over my neck
"Welcome to Vancouver university hope you enjoy your induction day" She said
"Thank you" I smiled walking away
