It’s been three days since the night with Angus. Since then I haven’t seen or talked to him, which worries me. What if he’s avoiding me now? What if after we kissed, he thought it was the wrong thing to do and doesn’t want to talk to me again?
But that can’t be. I remember that morning I woke up next to him on the sofa in his arms. I looked up at him and nothing seemed to change. I remember his gentle fingers playing with my hair, holding me close in his arms. I left safe and comfortable. He noticed my eyes open and set on his clear blue eyes, then he smiled at me and whispered, “Good morning, Sunshine.” I thought it was the best to leave his house early before Chris or Grace sees us together. It is strange that since that morning, I haven’t heard from him a all.
I jump onto my bed, laying on the stomach. I check my phone hoping that I would see a text message from him. I did get a text message, but unfortunately, not from him. It’s from Maya:
Can’t text much. Call me with this number: 555-523-7731
I remember leaving her in the party when the cops came. I haven’t talked to her too after these strange three days I’ve spent worrying about everything. After calling her many times before, I figured she didn’t have her phone with her.
There were so many questions in my head, but I dial the unfamiliar number on my phone. She answer the phone after a ring. “Hello?” She whispers on the other line.
“Maya? Are you okay?” I ask.
“They took my phone!” She vaguely answers.
“Who? You’re parents? I thought they’re in—”
“Italy? Yeah, well they’re not anymore. They came home as soon as they heard the news from the police that I threw a house party! Now they took my phone, laptop, my iPod, my car key, and they’re not letting me out of the house unless I’m going to school! I’m like a prisoner, Shay!” She tells me so quickly, I always got lost in her hissing words.
I feel bad for Maya, wishing I can help, but I know I couldn’t do much. “Then who’s cellphone are you using right now?”
“It’s Max’s spare phone that he never uses. He came up my window in the middle night and lent it to me.” I nod. Then suddenly I’m thinking of the things they did last night since Max snuck into her room in the middle of the night. I shake my thoughts away, disgusted. “I just wanted to talk to you. How’s Angus?” She’s still whispering.
“He’s fine, I guess.” I pause, again thinking about the fact that I haven’t talk to him for three days. “Actually, I don’t really know. I haven’t seen or talk to him since the morning after your party.”
It was silent for awhile on the other line. That’s when I remembered I haven’t told her about that part. “Morning after my party? Shay is there something you’re not telling me?” She hisses.
“Sorry, for some reason I thought I already told you.” She tells me to continue. “So I made sure that Angus goes home safely cause he made it clear he didn’t want to go to the hospital. I wasn’t planning on staying, but he told me to stay with him, so I did. And we... We ended up making out a bit.”
I hear Maya gasp then screech. “You slept with him?”
“No— well yeah— but not like that!”
I hear more screeching and laughter from her and I roll my eyes. She asks in a low voice, “Was it big?”
“Oh my god, Maya!” I scream. “We did not go that far!”
She still laughs on the other line then takes a sharp breath before saying, “I can’t believe you guys. I always thought you guys would be such an adorable couple.”
