Chain Reaction (On Hold)

Chapter XVII

"Mrs. Enriquez, I'd like you to meet my husband--"

"Kendrick.."Ana wasn't able to finish because Mrs. Enriquez said his name almost in a whisper, but it was still audible. Ana was surprised. She knows him? How come she knows his full name?

"Y-you know e-each other?" She asked.

"Let's go." Ken grabbed Ana's hand and was about to walk. When Ana stopped him.

"Wait! Why? Don't be rude. Atleast say hi to her." Ana whispered.

"I don't have to. Let's go!" He said in a stern voice.

"Wait. Ouch! Ken!" Ana kind of whispered again. Her arm also hurts, she can feel the tightness of his grip.

"Ana, I said let's go!" He said again.

"Kendrick! Please." Mrs. Enriquez got over the shock.

"What? I don't think I know you. We're going." He said in a very cold way.

"Please. Kendrick. Don't be like this. Have you forgotten who I am?" Mrs. Enriquez said as she held his arm. Ana doesn't know what's going on. How can she know him? And why does it seem like she longs for him, and he's mad at her?

"Let go." He said. Both Ana and Mrs. Enriquez let go of him.

"Kendrick. I have waited for this moment. You're so grown up now." Mrs. Enriquez said with tears forming in her eyes.

"I actually don't have time for this drama." He said without looking at her.

"Let's go Ana." He said and dragged her.

"Ken! Please don't forget that I'm your mother." That made Ken stop. He turned around and went near her again. Still dragging Ana. She's still speechless. Did she say Mother?

"The moment you stepped out the door and walked out of our lives, you stopped being my mother. So don't tell me that shit!" He said na parang nanggigigil. And then he walked out again, still dragging Ana with her.

Ana was still looking at Mrs. Enriquez. She's confused. But she felt bad for her. She saw that Mrs. Enriquez was standing there, and a tear fell down her face.  She was still looking at her when finally, she was out of sight.

They were in Ken's car, ready to go home. Ano ba yan. Gutom na ako e. She thought. But that didn't matter, she can feel that something's wrong with her husband. So she chose to keep quiet. They were in the road, when suddenly, Ken went to a drive thru. He was the one to order for them. Ana's stomach was celebrating already. But Ken was still quiet. It was awkward for her.

They reached home, without Ken even talking to her. She can't take it anymore. She has to do something about it. She knows that her husband is going on through something. And right now, she can feel a very negative vibe. It's like, he's hurt. But didn't Mrs. Enriquez say that she's his mother?  So that means..

"Ken?" She asked bravely. He just looked at her with lifeless eyes.

"A-awhile ago--" she wasn't able to finish her sentence

"Forget about it." He said with no emotion. And that's scaring her.

"But, I know it's bothering you--". She wasn't able to finish again

"I said, forget about it!" He said, now he's kind of angry.

But that won't stop her.  She has to talk to him. Kahit na magalit pa si Ken, she'll do her best to make him feel better.
