You'll Be Mine

Chapter Twelve

I wake up in a bright room a light being shined in my eyes I squint and slap away the hand that's holding the tiny flashlight.

"Ah can you stop doing that?" I rub my temples feeling the headache approaching

"Harper sweetie you're awake!" my mother is by my side grasping my hand tightly

"yeah it appears so.." I fade off looking around and I see the smiling face of Mrs. Reynolds come into view so she was the one shining the light in my face I squint my eyes at her "What happened?" I look around I'm not in my room and I'm most definitely not in a hospital room

"You-You don't remember?" my mother says worriedly but I sense a hint of hope and relief laced in with her words causing me to scrunch my eyebrows together in confusion

"It could be the medicine it'll be a couple of hours before it wears off. You'll be a little foggy at first dear." Mrs. Reynolds says

Images flash through my mind Ace fighting off wolves.. my father.. me shouting "no".. then everything is just a blur. I immediately sit up then regret it as my vision clouds and my head starts to hurt.

"Ace! how is he? where is he?" I look around frantically hoping he's somewhere near

"he's fine Harper. He's in his room you both have been out for five days. He's healing but he's just not a whole hundred percent just yet." Mrs. Reynolds says as she grabs a hold of my shoulder and urges me to lay back down

"Can I see him? I need to talk to him."

Mrs. Reynolds smiles down at me and leans in kissing my forehead "If it wasn't for you darling girl he wouldn't be alive."

I fist my hands "If it wasn't for me he wouldn't be hurt in the first place."

"Harper don't say that" my mother scolds me

"No!" I shout "Mom he's hurt because of me don't you get it? because dad found me."

she looks at me wide eyed and I glare at her "Yeah I figured it out my father isn't really dead."

she gets ready to speak but Mrs. Reynolds interrupts her "Harper, no one blames you for Ace's injuries. Ace doesn't blame you he was protecting you. It seems that you and your mother have a lot to talk about I'll leave you guys alone im going to check on Ace" she leans in once more smiling at me and smooths my hair back off of my forehead before giving me a kiss on the side of my cheek

"Could you come back and tell me how he is?"

"Of course anything else?" She smiles

I shake my head no and watch her leave closing the door behind her before I turn my glare onto my mother.

"I know what you did mother."

"Harper just try to understand that Heidi and Granny and I we were just trying to protect you."

"I never asked to be protected!" I shout and the room shakes a vase of flowers falling off of the nightstand next to me the glass shattering into a million pieces on the hardwood floor

my mother gets up and goes to clean it up "Harper calm down or were going to have to give you more medicine to make you sleep."

"I can't believe Heidi was in on it too." I growl

"She needed to know who your father was so she could protect you."

"you guy's didn't protect me you lied to me and had Grandmother put a block on my mind so that I couldn't remember what he meant to me. It didnt work you know the ice cold eyes still haunted me in my sleep nearly every damn night" I growl
