Chapter 22

Harry carried Faith to her room, changed her nappie and put on her pink pajamas. He put her in her crib and reached down to smooth her curls away from her face. "We have to pray super hard that we find mummy a new heart," he said softly. "We can't lose her."

Marian readjusted herself on the couch as she finished the glass of water.   "My babies, come sit on the couch with me. Auntie is a little tired and I'm sorry I cut dinner short." She said patting the couch.

 Ahmir and Destiny curled up next to Marian and they each put their heads on her shoulders as she snuggled them close. 

 "Auntie loves you both so much," Marian said.  "Ahmir, Destiny, you don't know home much joy and happiness you have given me since the day you were born," she told them kissing their heads.  "And someday I'll tell you....." she stammered and thought about how little time she had with them.  "I'll tell you about the day you were born."

 "We love you T," Ahmir said. He reached for Destiny's hand and as they held it they hugged Marian together.  

"I love you, Kaia, so much. She will make it, she will be okay," Zayn insisted.  "I promise."

 Kaia tried to slow her breathing down before she hyperventilated. This was the first time she had broken down in front of him like this. She clung to him, never wanting to let go. "I love you so much too," she said.  "But please don't make promises you can't keep."

"We should put the children to bed, what do you think Kaia, my love," Zayn asked.

Kaia nodded. "I'm sorry I don't mean to be such a crybaby," she said and looked up at him.

"I'm used to it," Zayn laughed, then walked her towards the living room to get the twins.  "Look at them, they are adorable."

Kaia kept her arm firmly around his waist. "I know," she said. "Do you want to let them be for a bit or should we put them to bed now?" She asked. "I think I'll go and put Karim to bed in his portable pack n play in our room," she said softly.

"I will go talk to the twins. See if they are ready while you put Karim down." 

"I love you," Kaia smiled at him. She hurried back to the kitchen to get their son and she headed upstairs.

Zayn smiled as he walked into the living room. He could see how much his children loved Marian. Just as much as he did. He also saw the worry on their faces.  "Hey, I love Marian too. I want some love," he said playfully as the twins seemed to hold on to Marian more tightly.

"My T!" Ahmir said.

"I've known your auntie longer than both of you have been alive. Now let daddy have some love." 

"I can share with you papa," Destiny grinned at him.

Zayn pulled his princess into his lap and leaned over and hugged Marian too, the blueness in her lips still scared the crap out of him.  

"Love you, Zayn," she yawned.

"Alright guys, I think we need to let Auntie get some sleep."

"I don't want to leave my T," Ahmir demanded.

"Your T needs her sleep, you can see her in the morning," Zayn told his son.

"You promise to be here for breakfast?" Destiny asked.

"I promise I won't go anywhere." Marian said kissing her head.

"No!" Ahmir pouted.

"Ahmir Declan Malik, your T made rooms especially for you. Do you want to disappoint her by not using them? Do you want to go home and not have breakfast in the morning?" Zayn asked his defiant son.
