"Hey Ephan?" A small voice could be heard and Ephan turned his head in the direction of the small boys voice. His brother, Roman, could be seen approaching him. Ephan was perched atop of their small little hut of a house. It had one room, and one bathroom along with the kitchen. The place was small because they didn't exactly have the biggest budget. Their mom didn't work and their dad worked in the labor union which was a job anyone could get so it didn't pay much. Their mother was dark skinned and their father was very white. Not like a normal pale, but a pasty, illuminate pale that makes you scratch your head and wonder how that happened. Due to this combination, Roman was very light skinned. It was hard to tell that he was colored. The only indication of him being colored is the fact that his hair had the structure and texture of a colored person. His eyes were a washed out green, that had gray tinged along his iris'. Ephan, it could be seen that he was colored. His skin wasn't as dark as his mother's but he was around the same skin tone. His eyes however, were a bright and vibrant blue that struck out immensely. They were an unnatural blue that wouldn't be seen anywhere else. His hair took more after his father, though. He didn't have the texture of normal colored hair, his hair looked like he had been dragged from the depths of a My Chemical Romance phase. It was long, black, and fell into his eyes. The hair tickled the back of his neck, nearing his shoulders and he never bothered to keep it cut and kept. He just let it grow, so his hair looked like an absolute mess most of the time. His parents tried to keep it cleaned but half the time he saw a pair of scissors or a razor he ran.
"Yeah, what is it?" Ephan mumbled out quietly. Usually when he was out here his family knew better than to bother him. It usually meant he was upset or just really deep in thought, which he hated being bothered during those times either way.
"Have you ever heard the story of The Overseer?" Roman asked and moved so that he was sitting beside Ephan. Ephan peered at Roman, his eyebrow furrowing in confusion as he did. He didn't know what Roman was doing, and he wasn't sure he wanted to know.
"No, now go away." Ephan turned away from Roman and hugged his knees to his chest, trying to ignore the older sibling. Even though.. Roman was only a few minutes older, being twins and all. Roman completely ignored his request and laid down, his hands rested behind his head."So The Overseer is apparently some man that has been watching over everything since the beginning of time. There's rumors that he's the person that actually created this universe as a whole, and maybe even other universes. He has some place up in space." Ephan felt movement and turned to peer at Roman. Roman had his hand lifted, finger pointed to the sky. Ephan trailed his eyes upward, eyes trained on the night sky above as he quietly listened to Roman drone on.
"No one's ever seen him, or if they have they have no idea what he looks like. Apparently he dies and reincarnates so the way he looks changes depending on the body he holds. Rumor has it, the body he has now has been around the longest yet. So there's a chance we could actually catch and see the overseer ourselves. I think.. if I recall.." Ephan could hear Roman humming in thought, trying to collect his thoughts.
"This current body has been around for over one hundred, thousand years. Some people think that he appears to take the form of a child, or at least someone small. But it's all speculation, no one is for sure. The previous hosts used to go out all the time and would go between all the worlds but this host likes to stay isolated. Apparently he's only been down a few times, and it's only when he really wants to help a world. They say you'll know if he's The Overseer by a few things. One, he always wears this small, black drawstring bag. Inside of it holds marbles. The marbles are the worlds, and that's how he creates new worlds too. How he travels. Number two being that he can levitate but this ones a lot less known. Apparently he doesn't use it often and sightings of it actually happening has only been once or twice so that could be a lie whether or not he can do that. And the last one. You can know he's near your world when you see a star that's abnormally large. Not huge, but you can tell it's pretty big and probably not supposed to be there. As I said, he has a place in space and it's supposedly easy to see. I'm hoping one day to see it. I think meeting someone that has that kind of power or ability is awesome. I'd want to talk to him and find out what all he's seen you know? If there's worlds out there besides ours. All sorts of things!" Roman spewed and Ephan couldn't help but smile.'What a nerd.' Ephan thought to himself. Of course, Roman had a large vocabulary for their age despite them both being kids in elementary. But the fact he just gushed and basically swooned over someone that probably isn't even real just made him laugh.
"You live your wild fantasies like that if you want, I'm going to go shower and I'm going to bed you nerd." Ephan flicked his forehead and Roman let out a noise of distress. He only laughed more and hopped off the roof, landing in a crouch.
"Do you need help down?" Ephan asked.
"Yes." Roman whimpered out.
And that's where the two differed. Roman was the one that read, studied, and spent his time doing things that were meaningful and worthwhile. Ephan was the kid that ran off and climbed trees and played in the forest whenever he should've been inside doing homework or something. He was stronger, and a lot more agile than Roman.Ephan held his arms out towards the older one.
"Jump down, I've got you."
Roman could be seen closing his eyes and tensing up but he listened and jumped. Ephan caught him, but it caused them both to fall.
"Are you alright?" Ephan fumbled on his words quickly, concern singed in his voice.
"What a nerd.~" Roman teased and flicked his forehead back, dashing inside.
"H-Hey! You didn't answer the question!" Ephan complained and stood up, dashing after his brother, the two of them making it back inside the safety of their small house.
