Chapter 15. Vivid Blue Eyes

Joey’s POV

“Jowella!” I heard a deep voice call behind my back.

I was sitting on a bench at the school grounds, a biology book on my hand. It was quarter after noon now and most students are heading back towards the hallway. I skipped lunch and decided to study since we will be having a long quiz about the scientific names of mammals, which happened to be my least favourite topic from this subject. I turned another page as I felt someone approach behind my back.

“Jowella” I’ve been looking for you all this time.”

Not turning away from my book, I spoke, “You’re not really gonna stop calling me that, aren’t you?”

He sat beside me. “Why? I’ve been calling you with your real name ever since we were seven.” I could hear the grin from his voice. “Besides, I know you like it.”

“No way, I don’t. It would be better if you’ll just call me Joey, like everyone.” I looked at him and rolled my eyes, trying to control a smile from forming in my lips. It was the hardest thing to do since one of the hottest boys in our school was the one sitting in front of me. He looked like he was one of the Angels sent from above who decided to make a stopover on the bench where I was staying at. His eyes were a vivid shade of blue that greatly reminds me of the ocean, his golden blonde hair, blown by the autumn breeze, has the perfect ‘just got out of the bed’ look and his supple lips wore a proud smirk on his clean and handsome pretty-boy face showing his sexy angular jaw.

“Well, I’m not just everyone. Plus Joey is more of a guy’s name. It doesn’t suit such a beautiful girl like you.” He reasoned, giving me a teasing grin. “You really don’t like it?” He asked. I shook my head.

“Then why are you blushing?” He chuckled loudly.

“I’m so not blushing!” I squealed while giving him a playful shove on the shoulder.

He stopped laughing and studied my face. I smiled at him. “You’re such a liar.” He smiled back and gave me a quick peck on my cheek. “What are you doing here? You didn’t have lunch with me.”

“I need to study. I have a long quiz in Bio later.” I said to him apologetically.

“You chose bio over me?” He asked dramatically. “I’m hurt.”

I laughed at his cute ‘hurt’ facial reaction. He pretended to be more hurt with this and stood up, preparing to leave. I then took hold of his hand, and met his deep gaze, “I’m sorry.” I said with sincerity.

He sighed and sat down again. “What can I do, my girl’s a nerd.”

“Hey. I’m not!” I pouted.

He leaned closer and met my eyes, our faces were just a few inches apart. I could almost feel his warm breath on my lips.”Yes you are...” He gave me a teasing smile. “But don’t worry, you’re definitely the hottest one.” He brushed his lips into mine for a few seconds before he pulled away.

“Oh crap. That made me forgot what I just read. ” I said dumbfounded, making both of us laugh.

“Davis, are you coming?” A tall guy from a group of jocks heading towards the door shouted.

“Sure, man. I’ll follow.” He said and signalled them to go first. I closed my book and gathered the rest of my things as I slung my backpack on my shoulder. He took the books from me and I gave him a thankful smile.

As we walked and entered the school’s hallway, he took my hand and intertwined his fingers with mine. “Tonight is Jake’s black and white party. So what do you think, I’ll pick you up at eight?”
