Chapter 1

A Sixteen year old Lilac Tanner startled awake from a deep sleep. She had had the nightmare again. The horrible nightmare. It had been 10 years since her mother's death. Yet the same nightmare haunted her night after night. The wound was still raw and fresh. She sat up and called her best friend in the world, Tamika Walsh. Tamika picked up almost immediately. "You had another nightmare?" Tamika guessed immediately. Tamika was a page out of irish stories. They were both tall with pale skin but where Lilac had had the greek black hair and blue eyes Tamika had blood red hair and vibrant green eyes. Tamika was one of the select few she could trust. In school Lilac was miss popular, star of the school's basketball team. But her real self was so different. Dark enough that most would run screaming the other direction. But Tamika had come from a hellish past and understood her completely and sympathized her. In reality Lilac was haunted with demons. She was consumed by nightmares. Or more like nightmare. The same one that haunted her since her mother's death. At that thought she was consumed by sadness, despair and helplessness. That same emotion that had daily lead her to almost end all the pain once and all. Some days it was almost OK, like everything was right, like her mother death had never happened. Then there were days like today would be. Hellish, with the demons in full force. Tamika's voice came out of the speaker, and outside of her door. "Let me in". Afters Lilacs mother's death Her father, Quan, Went back to the military and buried himself in his work... overseas. Tamika's family had symbolically adopted Lilac, letting her stay in their oldest daughter's old room. Marla's room. Tamikas older sister had died 11 years ago when a thief broke in and, well, silenced her... Forever. Now they let Lilac stay in it, and she suspected that was in part due to having another girl in the house helped ease their pain abit. "Come in" she said, tears threatening to come out. Tamika came in and sat on the corner of her bed. "How far did it get this time?". "Too far" Lilac whispered, trying not to break down. Tamika inhaled sharply. "Do you need to skip school?". "No, I've missed too much already. Just stay with me, OK?". "Ok " Tamika promised. "Now, tell me what happened this time". Lilac, seeing on way to avoid it, let it all go. " I went further, further in than I've gone before, and... and they almost caught me". With that off her shoulders she broke down. "I- I felt the claws. They hit me, hit me on my leg and knocked me down. Then I woke up". Tamika looked down to her leg and her eyes grew wide and fearful. "Lial, where exactly did they hit you?". Lilac looked down at her leg. "Right, right ther- what the?". She blinked a couple of times, trying to clear her eyes. It couldn't be. She must be seeing things. It must be a shadow, no, a-an, something else, anything else. "No way, no way..." Lilac whispered. On her leg, right where she was pointing, at the tip of her fingers, she saw a large, purple bruise. "Lilac Calliope Tanner, what the hell is going on?".
