And I thought I would be sitting by the beach

And I thought I would be sitting by the beach... admiring the sunset tomorrow. I have no idea why one of my clients is complaining. I mean, I'm so good at what I do. A superb match-maker and a professional date planner. In my line of work, I had never failed. 75 of my clients married their partners and 24 of them are still in a happy relationship.

I'm not used to failing, not in the line of duty at least. I know I don't have a steady relationship, but I prefer it. I'd like to be alone. Unlike my clients, I'm not looking for "The one". I don't really see myself getting married or having children. I don't think that will change.

"You're late" my boss said with her arms crossed.

"I didn't know I had to punch my time card" I flashed a silly smile, it usually works.

"Mr. Lauren is waiting"  I don't know why I got nervous all of a sudden.

"He's in my office and he wants to talk to you privately"

"Good Morning Mr. Lauren!" I closed the door behind me  gently.

"What brings you here?" I asked.

" I am almost about to propose to Summer?" He sounded so monotonous.

"That's a good news... right?" I'm not sure if I'm sweating already.

"I found out something and I'd like to know why you matched her with me?" He is looking me straight in the eye, like he is staring at my soul.

"Why not? She is a smart woman, extremely attractive and she has a kind heart" I can say that with confidence.

"And she was your ex-girl friend" I walked to my desk.

"2 years ago" He continued.

"That is true... you see, 2 years ago I broke her heart. I no longer wanted to be with her. I don't see my future with her and I don't think she will be happy with me."

"I don't think I am the right man for her and I know that you are the perfect match. After seeing your profile, and getting to know you personally, I knew you are a good man that will love her and be loyal to her."

"3 years ago I was diagnosed with brain cancer... The doctors said I have 5 years to live." I'm trembling I wanted to fight the tears but it's too late.

I wanted to make sure she finds a man that will love her for the rest of her life.
