Chapter 5

Courtney's POV

I woke up to a DM from Sam at 3 in the morning.

"Hey do u know where I could get tacos at midnight? xx Sam"

I rolled my eyes and replied.

"You really woke me up on a Thursday at 3 am just to ask me about where you can get tacos?"

I instantly got a reply

"No I woke u up on a Thursday to say happy birthday! xx Sam"

How did he know.

"How did you know it was my birthday?" I was honestly curious.

Growing up, I never really made a big deal of my birthday. To me it was another day, nothing special. My parents never really got me "lavish" gifts or parties. Just gift cards and a sleep over with my friends.

My thoughts got interrupted by the vibration from my phone

"You told me once when we started talking, and I never forgot. Xx Sam" I smiled.

The feelings I have towards Sam aren't just fan girl feelings anymore. I mean sure sometimes I sit down and get extremely happy because I realize that I'm talking to the boy who I obsessed over since forever. But now i think of Sam more as a friend. He has always been here for me through his videos, but now he's just a message away. In the month that we've been messaging, our relationship grew into a friendship and I can't tell you how thankful I am for that.

"Wow I can't believe you remembered. Thanks" I sent back.

"How could I forget? Oh and btw check the mail. Xx Sam"

I ran down stairs, unlocked the door and sprinted to the end of my street to get to my mail box.

Sure enough, when I unlocked it there was a package, that has an area of the average folder and a width of about six inches. Why would he send me anything? I messaged Sam.

"You didn't have to get me anything."

"Did you open it?!?xx Sam"

"No not yet, I'm still at the end of my street." I said as I started walking towards the house.

My phone vibrated.

"Ok don't open it until I skype you. I wanna see your face when you open it. Xx Sam"

This wouldn't be the first time we skyped. He started skyping me about two weeks ago. At first they were awkward but now I love getting them. I guess I always did.

"K I'm inside now." I typed as I made my way towards the family Mac in the kitchen. I moved the mouse and the screen lit up.

On the Mac there was a picture of me and my two younger sisters. I missed my sister Maeve so much.

My parents decided to send her to South Carolina, and she hasn't come back yet. She's supposed to to come back on Thanksgiving.

I looked at the date and time. October 2nd 3:34 am. My birthday, another birthday to be spent without my sister.

My thoughts got broken when the Mac screen lit up blue and I heard a ringing from it. Sure enough it was Sam calling like he promised.

"Hey birthday girl!" He said while smiling. Sam was laying on his bed while Dom was passed out on the floor.

"Thanks...Why is Dom on the floor?" I asked while laughing.

"He wanted to stay up and say happy birthday but he fell asleep at 11:30"

"Isn't he a night kind of guy?"

"Maybe but he had an eventful day, I'll spare you the details."

I laughed.

"Now open your gift!" I laughed and cut open the box.

Inside was another box, but this one was wrapped in pink wrapping paper with a bow and a card attached to it. I opened the card. It was light blue with the number 15 on it. Inside was a note.

"I'm so happy I met you. You are honestly one of my best friends even though we haven't met in person. I don't know what I'd do without you, Courtney. I hope you have a great birthday and I wish I could be there with you in person. Xx Sam"

I smiled and moved on to unwrapping my gift. Sam got me a LA sweatshirt and a pack of Swedish fish, my favorite candy. There was also another small box about the size of my palm. Once I unwrapped it I found out it was from Pandora.

I looked into the screen surprised.

"Sam, you're kidding right? You didn't have to get me anything, let alone Pandora."

"Just open it."

I sighed and opened the box. Sam really shouldn't have gotten me anything. Inside was a silver ring with my birthstone on it.

"This is expensive." I stated to the camera.

"Not really to be honest I didn't spend over 60 dollars on you."

"Sam?" I asked while smiling.

"Yeah"

"You're not supposed to tell someone how much you spend on them" I said while laughing

"Well at least I was honest" he stated.

"You do have that going for you," I said as I examined the ring happily.
