Tears and blood had invaded Mark's field of vision. His bleach blonde hair stained with the red substance. His porcelain like features cracking slowly shattering from the rough treatment. Quite gasps of pain resonated in the empty corridor. Not knowing when they would be back to finish him off, he tried to stand. However, he was not able to accomplish that task and fell back to his knees. Unaware that a sickening man with a sizable sadistic grin plastered on his face watched him. The malicious gleam in his blue eyes hidden by the man's thick brown hair unconsciously made the boy in front of him shiver. Swiftly moving over to the boy, which did not take long for the tall male, he wrapped his arms around the teen from behind. Speaking in a breathy voice, the man said, "Tell me, boy, Why would you come here if you heard the rumors?"
Mark flinches and speaks softly " I tend not to believe in rumors."
"You obviously do seeing as you're here." The man chuckled. As the chuckle dies down all that was left was a sad expression coating his once sadistic one. "Hearing that it reminds me of someone I once knew." sorrow laced every word that spilled from his lips. The man was distracted, and Mark took notice of this and took his chance to escape. He quickly shot his elbow into the older man's chest. A quiet grunt echoed through the empty hall as the man lost his hold and stumbled back. Mark stepped rapidly away. Turning on his heels, he staggered down the corridor. The chilling feeling of dread claws its way up his spine wrapping itself around his neck suffocating him. He couldn't breathe, think, or feel all that was there was the immense stillness of the empty hall.
Tap Tap Tap the sound of someone's heels hitting the ground getting louder and possibly closer as time passes on; Mark to snap from the solace of his mind. The only thing keeping the tears from cascading down his cheeks is the determination that this will all be over and he will be safe, and he will see his family once more. At this moment he is regretting a majority of the decisions that he made in his lifetime.
"You know when you are just standing there with a terrified look on your face; it is making this game less fun." The deep, smooth voice of the man before rang through Mark's ears. "The trick you pulled wasn't very nice you know it hurt a bit." Mark was speechless; his breath hitched in his throat. He slowly turned around to face the man hoping he only heard things. Sadly fortune was not on his side. Swallowing the lump in his throat and looked up at the man. His expression looks like that of a frightened kitten. The older man could just imagine a little kitten cornered by a big dog; it's fur and tail fluffed up as it looks for an escape, but the kitten knows escape is impossible.
The tenseness of the atmosphere swallowed the two men. Mark waited for the man to make his move. A deep chuckle erupted from the man in front of him. There was a tingling feeling that coated Mark's body. The hairs on the back of his neck stood in attention as though they were electrified. The air around him froze; he felt like all time had stopped. The ringing in his ears became overwhelming. His heart rate quickened though it felt to Mark like it had halted. Struggling to breathe his eyes glanced for an exit, though none seemed to present itself. He was cornered, soon to be done for he needs to find a way out.
Fear and determination is all the man saw swirling in the young boy's eyes. He licked his lips his eyes scanning over his pray. Dreams and nightmares are illusions while life is the truth; only there is no escape from the fate that God has dealt you. Quiet slightly muffled whimpers fall from the fear stricken boy . Mark who was once a proud, brave boy stood there with fear oozing from his body. His pride shattered his bravery fallen. He had one chance left. Only one chance to escape before it was to late. "W-why?" was all Mark could force out. His voice cracking as the air dried his closed off throat. The man blinked in confusion. He didn't understand. What did the boy mean? Why? Why what? His head started to throb. He groaned in pain and fell to his knees clutching his head. Mark took this chance to run. He hobbled down the corridor. Wincing at every step. He could see the stairs in his sights. If he could make it down them he would be free. Stumbling slightly he reached the stairs, but in the distance he could hear the man getting back to his feet. It sounded like he was struggling and in pain. Mark didn't have time to worry about that. He had to get out of here. He quickly but cautiously made his way downstairs. The door was in his sights. Mark rushed to it throwing the door open he was blinded with a bright light which was his future. The darkness one battles is never over only halted temporarily.
