Chapter 42: Reasons.
“I can’t believe you’d do that.” Ryan sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
I crossed my arms, “You left me stranded in the woods.”
“You weren’t stranded. We were there for you.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t know that.”
He raged his hand through his chocolate hair, “It was just a joke.”
“Yeah- so was mine.”
“Yours was a cruel joke!”
“Oh-” I laughed, “And yours wasn’t?”
He sighed, realising that I was right, “Yeah. I guess. I just- I didn’t want to lose you. I couldn’t lose you too.”
“Well you didn’t.”
“But I thought I did.” he ran his hands through his hair again.
“Look, you aren’t going to lose me like you lost Farah.” his eyes pained at the mention of his sister.
“You can’t promise me that.” his voice broke.
“No. I guess I can’t. Did you ever talk to anybody about it?”
He shook his head, his eyes brimmed with tears.
“I think you need too.”
He nodded and wiped away a tear on his cheek. I grabbed his hand and pulled him to his room. We sat across from each other on the floor, just like we had when I had told him about my dad except he was leant against the bed.
“When Farah was in eighth grade she first met… Melissa. Melissa is well as you can tell very mentally unstable. I still have no clue what’s wrong with her but she is very unstable and does drugs and all of that stupid crap. Well my sister thought that she could help her and became her friend. Melissa really didn’t have anyone. Farah became really good friends with her, but Melissa was not someone you want to be around. She always threatened Farah, saying if she ever left she would hurt the people she loves. Melissa figured out quickly that Farah didn’t care if she hurt her, but Farah was a family person. Then came the night that we got the call from the hospital. I don’t exactly know what happened- I’ve tried to block the memory. But it was their Freshman year and Melissa took Farah to a party. You know- a ‘party’. Alcohol, Drugs, all that.” he choked out the words, “Farah didn’t like it there, but Melissa told her it would be fine as long as Farah stood by her side. Melissa dragged Farah outside and tried to get her to take some drugs. All different kinds, Marijuana, Ecstasy, Cocaine,” he paused and swallowed a lump in his throat, “...Methamphetamine. When Farah refused, Melissa got really angry- she was already high at the time. She started to fight with Farah and Farah took out her phone trying to dial 911 for help and as she pressed send her phone was thrown from her hand.” he was crying softly, “Melissa pinned her and injected her with Methamphetamine. Soon enough the police were at the party, but Melissa and many of the other people had split by then. They found Farah on the ground and took her to Junction Hospital. Turns out Farah was severely allergic to Methamphetamine and she died within ten minutes of my parents and I getting to the hospital.” he was sobbing and I placed my hand on his leg. “Someone from the party told me this. They also told the cops, but they didn’t see the person who actually shot her up. I know it was Melissa though. Melissa was never convicted of anything. But she’s made it her life’s mission to make me miserable because Farah left her and she told Farah that if she left she would hurt the people she loves. I hate her so much. She killed my sister and nothing happened to her. I hate her. I hate her. I hate her. But I hate myself two you know, I should’ve gotten involved sooner and, and not let her...”
