Dear Edward

Today is one of the days I really wish you were here with me, and not on the other side of the world. You have been gone for a while now, and honestly, I don't know if this letter-writing thing is the best idea. I know you want me to write down everything, so you can read it when you come home. In addition, I'm going to write to you. Because I know how much it will mean for you when you finally get back. Even how much it hurts and makes me miss you more then I already do.

Yesterday I went upstairs to the attic. I was looking for a pair of shoes when I found a cardboard box with the writing "Edward and Emma" on it. I brought the carton with me downstairs, and went through it. I found a picture of us, back in our younger days. I was only seventeen and you were nineteen. We were sitting on a table, me cuddling up beside you. The picture left me teared up, thinking of the first time I met you.

I still remember it like it was yesterday, even though it really is over five years ago. I was sitting alone in the schoolyard eating my lunch. There was noises everywhere around me, students smiling, yelling, talking, playing football etc. In between everyone else, I saw you, eating your lunch. Just like I was. Your curly hair went a bit further down than your jawline, and had a nut-brown colour. Your plumped, pink lips moved slowly as you spoke to your friends; the friends who soon would be my friends too. I watched you as your deep green eyes looked over at me, caught me staring at you. I slowly took my eyes of you and looked at my lunchbox, making you smirk. Ten minutes later, you suddenly sat beside me. Talking about how you had spilled water all over your teacher. Your voice so deep and raspy. The next weeks you would smile at me in the hallway, and give me compliments every time we talked together. Just small, random acts of kindness. Who made me feel special.

Both you and I know I didn't have much friends back in high school. I was the girl no one really noticed, the girl who was invisible. I still remember how you would get in trouble for skipping class, just to give me company in the lunchbreak. The truth is that I didn't have any friends, before you. You were my first friend, my first boyfriend, my first kiss, my first everything. And I love you for it. Your little acts of kindness were the start of a new chapter in my life.

As you always say
Be kind. Always.

All the love.
Emma
