Hey guys. I'm trying something new here. I occasionally write articles in my free time and I've decided to post one of them on here. Just some thoughts I randomly get that inspire me enough to write them down. Hope you enjoy.
Society
It is almost overwhelming how one word could raise so much altercation and controversy in such a short period of time. There is no common ground shared between the opinions of all members of society nowadays, except upon the fact that the word "society" itself has achieved a fairly negative connotation over the past few years.
By observation, I have come to realize that the dominating opinion, regarding the issue of whether society is mostly good or mostly bad, suggests that society is a conspiracy against itself. Supposedly, based on this belief, every man on earth is solely dedicated to survival, and the only way to achieve that is to bring down his rivals along the road because there is only room for one man on the throne of success. However, it seems greatly baffling to me how someone could warily walk down the streets and look at other people's faces, constantly thinking about various ways of how to defeat them before they can do so first. I keep telling myself we're not on a battlefield and that this isn't war. That not necessarily everyone you see or meet is internally judging and criticizing you. That people have issues and insecurities of their own, an abundant amount of them, too vast to allow them to take notice of others'.
We've all had our fair share of embarrassments that, possibly, to this day continue to taunt us, and frankly, perhaps we were judged upon our mistakes, but have we ever stopped to think about the mistakes we've witnessed? The mistakes other people have made. Have we ever let those mistakes change our outlook on the people we know and love, let alone on strangers? We have way too much on our minds to care, so why do we view each other as enemies? The hatred that has arisen between us is due to a lack of trust. We're anticipating being judged, we expect the worst from people but isn't it about time that we give people a chance? That we stop blaming society for everything that goes wrong in this world? How can we hate society when we are society? We all think we're too good for society, that society is this evil complot that would take all sorts of extreme measures to achieve its goals and that we don't wanna be a part of that.
But how can we escape the inevitable? How can we alienate ourselves from our own species? We all make mistakes, some more grave than others, yet they are still mistakes and the consequences should be faced. It is time to stop blaming the whole world for our mistakes and start blaming ourselves. It is time to take responsibility for our actions, but more importantly, it is time to trust. It is time to escape the head space of thinking that everyone is waiting for us to fall into a trap they've set for us. Even though undeniably there are some bad people in this world, the issue lies in the generalization of this idea and the assumption that everyone is potentially evil because there is also the possibility that everyone we come across is potentially good. It is all about the assumptions we make about others, and the quick ones are those which have driven us to believe that society is a conspiracy against itself, when really, we're all victims to our false beliefs.
