Iris: August 27th

It was 87 degrees outside when I was going home.

Luckily it wasn't cold enough to get that turning sensation in my stomach that made me sick. It started happening when I was 13 ½ years young. Mom still couldn't look at me right, thinking I had the devil in me or I was possessed by a demon. I wasn't her daughter anymore. She was different showing the fake smiles but sometimes she showed her true feelings towards me. Then she started to drink rather harshly, and she began throwing things at me and telling me to stay away from her.

She still shows that same old fake smile when I walk into the door everyday or she'll be locked up in her room, drunk. My dad left when I was still in my mother's womb, mom said he wasn't ready for a child, so he left her. Truthfully, I would have left her too.

As soon as I got home, I walked in after standing at the door for a couple minutes. Complete silence, kinda eerie because my mom is almost never quiet when I get home. I slowly walked in the kitchen, looked around, but she isn't not here. I checked her bedroom, but she was still not here. I thought, maybe the bathroom, but I was wrong. I checked the whole house and she still wasn't there. I kept thinking maybe this is good, but I knew it was bad.

I called the police a few hours later hoping she would be back, but she never arrived.

The police came later that day. "Okay miss, when was the last time you saw her?" They had asked me 4 times already, but it was still always the same answer.

"Before I went to school she was asleep on the couch." Drunk. I kept saying in my head.

"Any strange reason why she would leave, or did she always act like she wanted too?"

I nodded... Because it's true. She always wanted to leave since I was 13 because apparently, I was a monster in her eyes.

"What was the reason that you'd think she would leave?"

"Me , I think..." I replied with a sorrow face on, trying to keep the tears that are stinging at the back of my eyes away.

"Why would she think that? " They say taken aback.

"I think it was because my attitude started changing because I was becoming... A teenager? She started to drink because of it, but I always thought it was puberty... I think so, at least."

"Reasonable." The say as they jot all of this down on a notepad.

"Well miss, do you have any other family members here?" They ask with a polite tone.

"My mom always told me my dad was here, but I don't know him, nor do I know of him." I respond quietly while looking down.

"Well do you have any friends that you could stay at until we find your father? We would need his name." The said kindly, but still sounded sort of... fake.

"His name is Seath Raine."

"Okay, thank you miss. Do you have anyone you can stay with tonight?"

I shake my head, since I'm new to this town. How would I know anyone?

"Well, since you're still a minor, but you're of age to live alone, I guess it'll be fine to leave you be."

"Thank you." I replied. Then just like that, they left. I walked back inside my apartment, most of the neighbors probably knew what happened.

I lie down on the leather black couch and slowly started to fall asleep.

Then I woke up to an unsuspected phone call.
