Rain Rain Go Away

BOOM. The darkening sky above roared. The weight it was holding suddenly became too much to bear, and a flood of water burst from the sky. A bright blond head broke through the blinding blanket of darkness. Water spilled over Rhett's head and leaked into his eyes. He tried to admire his photo, but his vision blurred as he stumbled over roots and ditches. His grip held firm to his camera, as if the rain would carry it away if he let go. The menacing wind smacked him back and forth. It lifted the precipitation off the ground, and formed it into delicate spirals. It performed intricate dances, helping the water to realize its true beauty. Rhett stopped himself from taking a seat and getting a good shot of this. How he longed for a picture of this magical moment. Mother nature harmonizing, even in the darkest storm. The melodic voice playing in his head was brutally interrupted however, by a hollow shriek. Lightning cracked above him like a broken lightbulb, casting long, evil looking shadows over the woods. Mother nature can wait. Rhett continued his desperate journey to escape the peril.

BANG. Smoke rose high into the sky. Shane's head tilted upward, getting an idea of why the animals were so sparse. A single drop landed on his head. He'd have to cut this short. A shame it was too; evening hunting was his favorite. It challenged him in ways most people would despise.

Suddenly, his eyes snapped over to the left. A small brown creature was hobbling along. Instincts immediately kicked in as Shane readied his gun. An enormous roar sounded in the distance, temporarily stunning his concentration. The rain had picked up to a light drizzle. This would have to be the last shot. The animal gravely dragged itself under a soaked bush, and cuddled in whatever warmth the storm so graciously let linger.

The gun was brought up to Shane's face as he narrowed in on his target. His chest started to beat slower, and his breathing was the only thing audible. One eye delicately snapped shut, and his finger tensed on the trigger. He readied his aim and - BANG. The animal froze, like ice replaced the bullet. It then fell limp, never to get up again. Rain glided off the leaves of the bush the animal had taken refuge under, and was now dripping onto its fur. Shane was about to go over and retrieve his kill, but before he could, a streak of light came down, and what was once lush greenery, became a ball of fire. He flinched backwards, stumbling over his thick shoelaces, before running off into the darkness.

A/N: Thank you so much for deciding to read my story! It's in its baby stage right now, so I'll probably end up changing some things like the the title and chapter names, and maybe even the characters themselves. This is probably going to be the shortest chapter, but they're all going to be pretty short.
