"Y/N! You're gonna be late!" My mom yelled from downstairs, she always has such a positive outlook on things. She absolutely adored moving from city to city, never settling down long enough to fully feel at home. I guess that's why she left my dad. But as much as I hate moving, I hate the man i'm forced to call my father more. He's always drunk and when he's not he's sleeping or cheating.
"I'm coming!" I yelled back. I was finishing my freshman year this year. I wished I could have stayed in St.Louis until the summer. I liked it there, I had friends I was just getting close with, but instead I'm here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I've noticed the two main classes here, what the locals here like to call the "greasers" and the "socs". The greasers, they were the lower class, most of them had long greasy hair and worn leather jackets. And the socs, the higher class drove mustangs and madras. I moved into a greaser neighborhood. And I'm scared that it will affect my chance of making friends here, nobody seemed to like the greaser girls unless they were looking for a one night stand.
"Good morning Y/N! Ready for your first day at your new home?" My mom said with a bright smile. Home. That's not really in my vocabulary. Home is a place where your family is, where you feel safe and loved.  And as much as my mom tries, she's never had that motherly feeling that I've read in books about. But I guess I better try to make this Tulsa thing work. At least for the few months we live here.
"Yeah Mom, I'm just a little nervous. The people are intimidating here." I sighed, my mom didn't seem to take the hint about not being happy. She waved to me and wished me luck. Then I was on my way to my new school..
When I got to school I noticed a group of what I assume, socs, staring at me. I smiled but didn't make any attempt to make  more contact with them. I started walking away until  one of the soc boys walked over to me.
"Hey darling. What's a pretty girl like you doing wearing clothes like that?" He smirked. He was right, I was wearing a navy blue shirt with a Rolling Stones sweatshirt tied around my waist and my jeans weren't the cleanest.
"I'm just trying to get to class." My heart started racing. He smirked devilishly and tried to grab my arm. Being from the part of St. Louis I was, I learned to have fast reflexes so I pulled away and backed up. I didn't like where this was going.
"Hey Bob! She ain't worth it! Let her go, she's not even that pretty!" Another soc scoffed behind, I guess his name was Bob. Usually girls my age would be offended by boys telling them their not pretty.                   Me, I didn't really care. I never worried about boys. Bob tripped me then walked away laughing with his group. The only soc who didn't laugh was this redhead girl, she mouthed sorry but quickly caught up with Bob and the others.
I laid on the ground for a few seconds until I saw a hand. I grabbed it without thinking, when I saw who the hand belonged to I realized he must have been a greaser.
"Hi, I'm Ponyboy." He smiled.
"Y/N" I said shyly. He looked me up and down then smirked.
"You must be new. I'm sorry for the trouble the socs have caused you." He said like he's been in my shoes before, I guess the socs mess with everybody around here.
"It's okay, he didn't hurt me. Do you know where Ms. Hinton's  classroom is?" I asked hoping that maybe he was going there too.
"Yeah! I'm on my way there! You can walk with me. Maybe I can introduce you to my buddy Johnny. He goes here too." He smiled. I was happy to know that there was nice people here. Maybe Johnny was nice too.
We walked the halls for a while until Ponyboy called out to a boy. He looked a little older than us. Maybe fifteen, or sixteen. He was darker than Ponyboy, had black greasy hair that covered his forehead and a scar that lay on his left cheek.
" Hey Johnny!! I met a girl!!" Pony Yelled. I giggled at the way he said girl, it's like girls were rare diamonds to him. Johnny smirked and walked over to us. He held out his hand, it looked fragile, like if I wasn't careful it would break into pieces.
"Hi, I'm Y/N, I've heard a lot about you from the 10 minutes I've known Pony." I elbowed Pony. Johnny chuckled.
" I'm Johnny." He smiled.
"Already acting like part of the gang" Ponyboy sighed. Johnny nodded and I blushed.
"She's gonna be a great friend, I can tell you that." Johnny agreed. I guess there was more boys I was going to meet.
The rest of the school day went by fast. Pony, Johnny and I had become good friends. I liked hearing about Pony's favorite books and joking around with Johnny about Pony's love for books. The three of us walked home together, as we turned the corner Johnny's eyes lit up and Pony smiled.
"Hey Dally, Two-Bit! This is Y/N, she's new!" Pony said. The guy on the left was wearing a Mickey Mouse teeshirt with a leather jacket. His hair came down in the middle of his forehead, it kinda looked funny. The guy on the left had brown hair and brown eyes, he wore a brown leather jacket with a black shirt and dark jeans. A weed hung from his lips, he looked me up and down then looked at Ponyboy.
"Pony, how'd you get a pretty girl like this to hang with you and Johnnycake?" He teased, he had a New Yorker accent so I'm guessing he's from up north. Pony chuckled, and then looked at me and smiled.
"I guess you got an admirer there Y/N!" Johnny whispered so just Pony and I could hear him. I could tell he looked up to Dally, just front the way he looked at him. I blushed, I guess he was cute. But so was Pony and Johnny.
"Hey PonyBoy! How much you paying Y/N!" The guy named Two-Bit laughed.
"Well he ain't payin me much!" I joked back, Pony playfully slapped my arm.
"Hey, he only had to pay the one time fee to talk to a girl like Y/N." Johnny exclaimed, Pony rolled his eyes and sighed.
"I guess y'all don't have enough faith in me. I only had to smile to get Y/N to talk to me." Pony winked. I blushed, but quickly shoved him so he would shut up about the way we met. I didn't want the rest of the gang to know how we met, it's bad enough that the three people standing around when it happened saw the way Bob so easily knocked me down.
"Hey where's Soda and Steve?" Two-bit asked.
"At the DX,  their working on some hot rod, Steve's real into it." Pony said "Soda's my Brother, Steve's his best friend." I've been to the DX before, the first day we moved to Tulsa I stopped by and got a soda. I wondered if the guy working the register was Soda or Steve. He had a great smile and blue eyes, he was what most people would consider, hot.
"Well, I want Soda to meet Y/N, y'all want to come?" Pony asked. Johnny nodded and Dally and Two-Bit shrugged.
"Sure, let's go." Dally lit a weed. We started walking, I got more and more comfortable with the boys. They started calling me Gypsy because I moved so much. I guess it fits, I've never really had a home I just had a place to get comfortable with and then leave. Johnny didn't see it that way, he said that it was better to travel and see things than to be stuck in one neighborhood your entire life. I guess I see where he's coming from.
"Hey Soda! I got someone I want you to meet." Pony walked over to the good looking cashier that I saw the first day I moved here. "Soda, this is Y/N, Y/N this is Sodapop. But we mostly call him Soda." Pony continued. Soda smiled and held out his hand.
"Hi. Sorry I'm all dirty, Steve and I have been working on this baby for a while." Soda pretended to swipe a smudge of the car, while Steve adjusted the side mirror.
"Yeah, we put a new motor in it. You know anything about cars Y/N?" Steve looked up from the mirror. I knew enough about cars to change the oil or replace a tire.
"A little, moving so much you pick up a thing  or two." I admitted, Steve smiled and gave the rest of the gang an approving nod.
"I like her." Steve and Soda said at the same time. "You found a good one here Pony." Soda smirked.
"Yeah, now all she has to meet is Darry. Hopefully he's nice to her." Dally spoke for the first time we got to the DX. Guess he finished his weed.
"Who's Darry?" I asked, I'm guessing he was the oldest. From the way Pony looked I could tell he was respected and some what feared.

"Darry's my oldest brother. When my parents past away he took the parent roll for me and Soda." Pony said quietly. I nodded, I didn't know Pony's parents had died. I understand why he hasn't brought it up though. Loosing your parents must be hard.
"I'm sorry for your loss." I said sympathetically. Soda and Pony nodded.
"It's alright, Darrys a little strict but he loves the gang more than anything." Soda said in a happy tone. "He should be getting off work any minute now, Steve you wanna take a break and go with them?" Steve nodded and set the cloth he was using to polish the handles with on a metal table.
"Why not, I cant miss Y/N meeting Darry. This is probably the only time Pony will ever bring a girl home to meet him." Steve laughed. The rest of the gang joined him, except Pony who looked pretty annoyed at all of us.
We walked for a while until we reached their house. It had a fence around the perimeter that Soda and Steve easily flipped over. I tried to imitate their flip but got caught on the fence and fell. The boys burst out laughter, I blushed and quickly got up.
"Hey instead of Gypsy, maybe we should call you clutz!" Two-bit teased.
"Let's see you do it!" I challenged. He smirked and flipped over the fence with ease. I rolled my eyes and went through the gate.
When I got to the stairs a big muscular man opened the door. My heart started racing, that must be Darry I thought to myself. The gang came over to me, clearly seeing how uncomfortable I was.
"Darry, I have someone I would like you to meet." Pony said. I smiled shyly and waved.
"Hi, I'm Y/N. But I guess my nickname is Gyspy." I said trying to sound chill.
"Clutz" two-bit whispered. I slapped his arm, Darry smiled.
"Well, why don't you come in and we can have a proper greeting." He said kindly. I was surprised, Pony made it seem like Darry didn't like anybody.
"Alright, do you guys wanna hang out here." I asked.
"If you want us to, just don't be too long. I'm craving some chocolate cake!" Soda licked his lips. I chuckled and went inside.
"So, Y/N, I see the gang has grown quite fond of you." Darry said.
"Yes sir." I nodded. He laughed and shook his head.
"There is no need for sir! If you're gonna be part of our family now, Sir is just not a word in our vocabulary." He smiled. Family. That felt weird, I've never been part of a family before.
Darry and I talked for a while and learned a lot about each other.
"Well, I guess we better let those boys in. They're all probably dying for some of that chocolate cake!" Darry walked over to the door.
"Or we could eat it all ourselves!" I laughed.
"Hey I heard that!" Soda yelled. "We're eating that cake!" He walked inside with the rest of the boys behind him. We all crowded into the kitchen and Pony pulled out a big chocolate cake.
"Now doesn't that look delicious" Dally stuck his finger in the icing and licked it off. I rolled my eyes
"Come on Dall, don't you have any manners?" I scolded. He laughed and swiped his finger along the icing once more.
"Well, let's all get a piece before Dally eats it all with his hands." Two-bit grabbed a fork and tossed it to Dally. We all grabbed a piece, they were as big as our hands. Darry was the only one to finish his. By the end the boys had more cake on their faces than in their mouths.
"You guys missed your mouths!" I giggled. Johnny grabbed a handful of cake and shoved it all over my face. I gasped and grabbed a chunk, I smashed it into his nose.
"It's on!" I challenged. The boys smiled and all grabbed a handful of cake. We tossed and shoved cake at each other for a while until we were all covered.
"Hey the sunsets out!" Pony froze. I looked out the window and saw pink and purple and my favorite, gold, across the sky.
"You guys wanna go watch it?" Johnny asked.
"Why not. We might be able to scrape this cake off too." Soda said. We walked outside and sat in the stairs.
"It's beautiful!" I whispered. Pony nodded. We watched the sunset until the sky was black.
Maybe I do belong in Tulsa after all I thought as we watched the rest of the colors fade into the night sky.
