We've been in the car for nearly ten minutes and neither of us has said a word. We just stay there listening to the radio when Alex turns to look at me and he starts talking.
"Emma?"
"Yes?"
"Did you and Mark ended things in good terms or bad terms."
"Well I wouldn't be running away from him if we had ended in good terms."
"Right. But did you guys ended things because of a silly thing that then became bigger or..."
"We broke up, because Mark did a really bad thing, something he shouldn't have done."
"Ohh, and did you ever thought he was the one? You know the one you marry, the one you spend the rest of your life with."
"You know now that you say that, no I never pictured myself married to Mark."
"Maybe that's what went wrong."
"Yeah, maybe. Anyway what's with all the questioning?" I ask Alex and turn to look at him but he just shrugs. "Are you interested in a little girl?"
"Maybe."
"Oh my God! My little brother is in lovee!"
"Shhh Emma, I'm not that little and I'm not in love, I just like this girl."
"Oh really? Who is she?"
"You promise to not make fun of me?"
"Yes I promise! I'm not James Al you can tell me anything."
"Okay, well there's this girl in my math class, her name is Ashley. She is a really smart girl, and she's beautiful, and funny, and really easy to talk to. And I really like her Em, and I'm nearly 100% sure she likes me too."
"But?"
"But we're kind of friends, we talk a lot with each other. And I'm scare that if we date, things are going to go wrong and we might break up. And I'm scared that if we break up we'll never speak to each other again."
"Look Alex, not every relationship works, so I can't tell you that you're never going to break up with her. But if you do date her and break up, you can still be good friends. Not all relationships end badly, sometimes you end things, and you loose a boyfriend or girlfriend in your case, but you gain a friend, a really good friend."
"Like you and Harry?"
"Yeah, like me and Harry." I sigh remembering about Harry. We stay in silence both of us for another while, when Alex breaks the silence again.
"Em, can I ask you a personal question?"
"Maybe, what's the question about?"
"Just tell me yes or no."
"Fine, shoot."
"At what age did you lost your v-card?" Alex asks.
"What?!" I yell and hit the breaks turning to look at him.
"I'm sorry, I know this is weird and I shouldn't be asking this. But I don't know what to think, I mean Mom tells us to not do it under any circumstances, until we're married. In school they tell us to wait or to do it but with protection, and my friends tell me to just do it. They even compete to see who has slept with more girls."
"Don't you ever do that Alex" I say, well more like order. No girl deserves to have her heart broken so a stupid guy can win his stupid player contest.
"No! I will never do it. I swear!"
"Good, girls have feelings. They don't deserve to be treated like that. They're persons not stupid trophies."
