◼About 2 months ago:
I nervously walk through the store clutching a shopping basket in my hand. My palms are sweaty and they seem to slip around on the handle. I peer down each isle till I find the right one.
I stand in front of the display, there seem to be so many boxes to choose from. I stand there, shifting from foot to foot, staring for a while, moving my eyes from box to box. I have no clue which one to choose.
I finally decide to say 'fuck it' and throw a bunch into my basket. As a shuffle away from the stand I start to panic. I'm so flipping nervous and I don't even know why, this is supposed to be a happy thing..... Right?
I go to the self-check out, scan each box, and toss them into a bag. I look over at the display of chocolate. "Yummy" I groan, I haven't had chocolate in ages. I grab an entire case of my favorite candy, Reese's, and scan each bar. Never hurts to have extra, I might need them.
I sit in my car, running my hands over the leather seats trying to calm my nerves. I'm probably panicking about nothing. I take a few deep breathes before starting my engine and driving off.
I listen to music the entire ride home easing my mind of its exceptionally stressed state. The sun has just started to rise and the birds were chirping loudly. I really couldn't wait till later to do this. I pull into the parking space of our apartment building, collect my bags, and get out of my car. It's the beginning of January and the air is cold and crisp with snow.
I trudge through the, now, brown and slushy street to the front door of the old building. As I get to the door it's pushed open by someone inside. As she steps through the threshold she gives me a smile. "Hi darling" she chirps "a bit early to be out isn't it?"
I smile back politely, although I don't think she had any right to be in my business, she looks nice enough. "Just had some, uh things to buy" I say holding up the brown paper bags for her to see. She looks down at them and then back up to me. I notice how beautiful her eyes are, piercing green.
"Well you have a nice day sweets" she trots down the stairs, her heels hitting each step with clank. I turn and continue into my building. I climb up the old broken stairs to my apartment and pull the key from my pocket.
I quietly open the front door and tiptoe in, trying not to wake Henry. As I begin to shut the front door I'm startled by a set of hands on my waist. I smile as Henry kisses me on the top of my head.
"Why were you out so early?" I spin to face him and see a look of confusion washed over his beautiful features.
"I had some lady things to pick up" I squeeze the bag in my hand making it crinkle "I was running low."
His expression changes to a content one. I hate lying to him but I'm not about to tell him what's really going on until I'm ready and sure. But I definitely wasn't running low. In fact I haven't even used any this month, my period was late.
He lets go of me and begins to walk back to our bedroom.
"Why are YOU up so early?" I ponder, slowly walking toward the bathroom door. I peer down at the bags in my hand as my hand touches the knob. He turns just his head a little and lets out a simple "work called" before continuing into the room. "You coming?" he yells from inside.
