Chapter Seven:
Jessica’s POV;
I couldn’t fall for him, right? He was cold, and harsh. He was heartless, remorseless and rude and I couldn’t fall for anyone like that. Or could I? I looked at him; I knew he was being serious – that he meant every word he said. I thought of the amount of times he tried to show me he was a good person and that made me smile, maybe he meant it.
“Please tell me you mean it.” I begged and his facial expression completely changed. From being worried he became amused and that scared me.
“I do.” He said coming closer. “I want you to be my everything. I want to tell you everything about myself.”
“Same here.” I said as I took heavy breaths. “I think – I’m falling for you too, but I shouldn’t.”
“Afraid I’m the wrong guy?” he asked.
“You’re rude, mean and cruel. How can you love me?”
“I’ll show you the real me, the part of me only you’ll see. After that, it’s your choice. If you want to walk away, that’ll be your only chance without any argument.”
“We’ve already told each other about how we might be falling for each other,” I said awkwardly. “We never discussed past relationships – bad experiences. Or anything more."
“Hah, that’s cause my list is longer than your height. I can list all the girls I’ve dated, but slept with? I can’t.” He said like it was so usual for a guy to be that way but it made me annoyed. It bugged me, in fact I hated the feeling that he had seen and been with so many different kinds of girls.
“I still want to know, tell me about the relationship that meant the most? Everything.” I said casually pulling a pillow into a hug and sitting properly in front of him.
“If it matters to you, then fine.” He said as he took out his phone and kept it on the side. “Melissa for six months, Gemma for two months, Lindsey was just a scene for a bit, Laurel for three months-”
“Okay wait,” I said, the list was too long and it bugged me. “Just talk about the important ones, those who you didn’t have to force?”
He smirked, “Well all the girls I’ve slept with weren’t forced, and then there is Melissa who I dated for six months and Laurel for three.”
“I’m impressed with the six months.” I stated feeling how useless his past was; there was no emotion in any of it. “Tell me about Melissa.”
I was curious, he never had a relationship longer than three months except for one?
“Well, I only dated her cause she needed protection from her maniac ex boyfriend. We never really had anything more than that; it was more of a friendship than a relationship. Her ex got the hint and got a new obsession and then we broke up.”
“So you dated her that long to protect her?” I frowned, that didn’t sound like a very Jason thing to do.
“No one knows that except you and Melissa herself.” He looked down shyly, like a caring side of his was uncovered. “What about you?”
“Three guys. Longest and most meaningful was with this guy Nathan, he shifted so we broke up.” I said. “We were pretty serious, but then he found out he was leaving and we decided to be friends so it was easier when he left.” I said quickly.
“He’s gone for good?” I could sense the harshness in his tone.
“Yeah.” I said sighing.
*
“I need to ask you something.” Jason said as I followed him outside my house, he was going home. He seemed nervous, and that scared me.
“Sure.”
“Do you want to come to the Cabin Woodland…with me?” Jason blurted awkwardly.
“What? When?” I asked nervously. Did he mean alone? Cabin Woodland was a forest area nearby, it had family and couple cabins with hiking and bonfire areas separate for each cabin. And since Jason’s family was rich, I was assuming they had theirs booked by the yearly thing.
“Next weekend, my family is forcing me to come along because of something business related. My parents, their friends family and I will be going and I want you to come.”
“I’ll have to ask mom.”
“Don’t worry about that, let my mom handle it.” He said quickly. “As long as you want to come."
“Sounds great.” I smiled as he pulled me in for a kiss.
When he pulled back he seemed happy, like he expected me to say no to him. “Um one more thing.” His face became pale. “Don’t make a big deal out of my parents being there. They mean nothing to me.”
I stared at him, stunt by his words and that’s when the insecurity hit me. If he couldn’t care for his family, how could he care for me? I didn’t want him to hurt me, because truth was I didn’t have it in me anymore to take more hurt. My brother hating me was enough…. I didn’t want Jason to hurt me, I needed him to care but if he couldn’t then I wouldn’t let him in more.
“You need to go.” I don’t know how that happened, or how I managed to say those words when I wasn’t even planning to say them but as soon as I said them – his eyes suddenly darkened. But this time the darkness in his eyes wasn’t anger, it was rejection.
He stared at me, offended but then within seconds, he smirked and replied casually brushing his thumb over my cheek. “Game on, love.”
What the fuck did he mean?
