I stared, unamused, at the T.V. screen within my quarters the next day. Of course this would happen. It always happens, putting the entire bureau at risk, I sighed.
"Tom Manning has been head of Special Operations at the F.B.I., and he joins Pat in the studio tonight to go over the latest Hellboy sighting," the narrator on one of the channels said.
"Again?" a gentle voice said behind me. I cocked my head to see a familiar amphibious face.
"Hello, Abe. You came out of no where," I smiled warmly at him, "And I thought you were one to knock first before busting in someone's room, unlike someone."
"Sorry about that, Vivian," He huffed, dipping his head apologetically before striding closer to me, "I did knock, waiting at your door for a few minutes but you never answered. You must've been really into your television show."
I managed to catch the teasing tone in his voice. I huffed, "Not really, bored out of my mind is more like it. Sorry about that, Abe."
"It's alright," he said. Abe cupped his right hand around the back of his neck, being careful to not end up smothering his gills. I could feel the nervousness radiating off of him. "You've been in your quarters all day. I just wanted to check on you was all. May I sit down?"
I nodded, scooting over to one side of the coach as he sat down beside me. My eyes straying away from him until I finally decided to look over in his direction, noticing that I had moved over a little more than I should've, a large gap being between us. He acknowledged it too, teasing me again as he chuckled, "I don't bite, Vivian."
My eyes darted away, gently biting on my bottom lip as my face slowly grew hot with embarrassment. Despite how fond I was of Abe, there are times where even he can drive me insane. I slowly scooted closer to him; our heads turned to the screen.
"I have a question. Why is it, in these pictures -- pictures of aliens, UFOs, the yeti, Hellboy -- why is it they're always out of focus?" Manning wondered within the TV screen, the crowd in the background laughing.
Abe gave a small chuckle and smiled -- for what you could call a smile -- before leaning over to me, whispering, "I'm surprised that Manning is still covering for us. He's risking his whole reputation just to keep the bureau safe. He's rather committed to this."
I nodded contently at his statement. "I'm surprised that Manning hasn't been getting at our own asses for any of it either," I smirked, deviously. Abe hummed in agreement before we both turned back to the screen.
"Why don't you tell us about the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense?"
"I want to tell you and tell the American public one thing. This Bureau of the...?"
"Paranormal Research and Defense." repeated Pat.
Manning turned back to the camera, pointing to the anonymous audience beyond the screen and to those watching like Abe and I. "There is no such thing."
Not long after, Abe had retreated back to the library to soak up in his tank while I went down to check on briefings and get my reports from previous missions done. When that was finished, I strolled down the hallway to approach a familiar vault door. Clay stood in front of it, who dipped his head to me as I approached.
"Coming to see the family, huh, Vivian?" Clay smirked. I nodded in response. Clay pulled out a switch before placing it in a lock, undoing it. Two flashing, red siren lights came down, and Clay pulled the vault open.
"Take care of yourself, Agent Lycan. Who knows how pissed Red will be with Professor Broom having him grounded."
"Don't worry, Red wouldn't put a single finger on me, even if he wanted to."
