Aiden took out parchment paper, quill, and ink. He
then began to write to Bailen, the Grandmaster of the
Scarlet Knight order asking for help to find their mother
who was taken as a slave then asking for help with
transportation to France. Once he finished the letter he
signed and sealed it, they then took the message to
Father Thomas for they knew he could be trusted to get
the message to Italy.
The three of them mounted their horses and headed
back to Theirin Village in silence, each deep in thought.
Once inside the village they each went their separate
ways, Aiden stopped his horse and dismounted, he
needed to think about what he had to tell Jetta. So hetook his horse towards the manor house. Aiden was deep
in thought as the cottage came into view. As he
approached the house, he could see Caiden playing in the
yard; Jetta was sitting in the shade under the old oak tree,
watching him contently.
Aiden walked up to her; she looked up at him and
smiled. "Hello, love. Did you find what you were
looking for?" He sat down, "Yes, but it's not what you
think." Jetta could see the stress on his face, the worry in
this blue eyes made them pale in color; there was so
much sadness behind his stare that her heart broke and
she needed to know why. She brought her hand up and
touched his cheek, "What is it, love? You know you can
tell me anything."
Aiden took a deep breath. He placed her hand in his.
The afternoon air softly rustled through the leaves of the
tree. "We went to see Father Thomas; he looked through
the church records, he found where Rylee was born, but
there was no record of my mother's death or any grave
listed on the burial chart."Jetta looked at him with confusion, "How can that
be? Come on, let's go back inside." She picked up Caiden
as they went back into the kitchen. "I will take Caiden to
the sitting room so he can play and we can talk more."
When Jetta returned to the kitchen Aiden was at the
table. Aiden almost felt sick, for the next part he would
tell her ripped at his heart. "We left the church and went
back to the manor; we went into the study that father
kept. We needed to find something that would give us
any clue to what happened, and with Rylee's anger and
rage we did just that, he busted one of the floorboards.
We found an old box, inside we found records that father
had dealing with the French and slavers, going back to
well before I was born." Jetta couldn't believe her ears,
"How could he be so heartless, so cold, and unfeeling!"
Aiden took a deep breath then placed both hands
on the table. "It gets much worse. Rylee was so angry he
kicked the desk, that is when we heard something hit the
floor. A small wooden box lay underneath when he
retrieved it and we opened it, inside was a scroll." he
wiped a tear from his eyes then continued, "The scrollhad the Hawke seal, when opened it was like a nightmare. Love, my father sold my mother as a slave, to be used for child rearing. He had her shipped off to France." Jetta could feel Aiden's pain; she could not help but cry, the tears flowed uncontrollably down her cheek. "I am so sorry, my love, what can we do? Do you know if she still lives?"
