So, this is a small sequel based on my Attack on Titan Fanfic, "White Blank Page".... So if you haven't read that... well none of this will make much sense really. No worries though, you can find the story on my profile!
Enjoy!!!!
*******
"Levi....Leevviiiii....Leeeeeevvvvviiiii"
His dark eyes flutter open, they're clouded and unfocused from sleep, but after a few moments his vision becomes normal.
"Iris.. what are you doing?" he asks in his dry husky morning voice.
I'm sitting on top of Levi and holding a puppy over his head. The dog continues to gaze at him with wide adorable and innocent chocolate brown pools of cuteness.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" I giggle, lowering the puppy onto his chest.
He sighs and chuckles lightly, then rubs at his eyes to rid the tiredness from them. The small puppy begins to lick at his chin and I bend down and rub my nose against the still groggy Levi's nose.
"Up! Up! Up! Sleepy head!" I laugh and hop off of him, taking the small black fluff ball of a puppy with me.
Levi slowly rises, like a bear just rising from hibernation after a long cold winter. He trips out of bed and lumbers towards the bathroom.
"Be down stairs soon! The others have already begun training!" I call out as I stroll out of the room and down the stairs.
He mumbles some incoherent noise of agreement as I exit. I walk out of the main part of the Scout Regiment's base and into the courtyard where there are bunches of bustling creatures: both human and canine.
I wave to a few people as I walk towards the recently built dog nursery.
What's going on you ask?
Well... to put it simply... after all that had happened with Fala and I, the higher ups saw how well human kind could benfit from having animals help us against the titans. Since dogs were the only proven animal that could be trained to attack, our base had developed a large squadron of canine-human pairings. Of course, not everyone in the regiment were part of the program... such as Eren and Armen... but there were still numerous groups.
Anyways, I was the main trainer, breeder, etc... due to my experience with Fala.
Levi helped me as well, after I'd taught him how of course.
Placing the small puppy next to her mom, I found Fala in her stall, her stomach swollen almost to an unbearable size.
She panted happily when she saw me and I smiled, petting her lovingly in greeting. Levi's dog, Hakan (meaning of name = fire), strutted over from the corner of the stall. I scratched behind his ear as well, and he followed me out of the stall and out of the nursery, to the clearing where the cadets were training.
(If you were wondering... Levi had rescued Hakan from the streets, and the mutt had taken well to the training, as well as breeding with my very own, Fala. *sigh*)
Levi looked like his usual stoic and grumpy self, standing and watching as the cadets struggle to remain balanced with dogs strapped on their backs.
I walked up behind him and pecked his cheek quickly, causing his expression to change from stony, to soft and blushy in seconds. A few of the cadets chuckled or laughed, and some even lost concentration at their surprise of Levi's reaction, and lost balance, flipping upside down with a yelp of surprise from their canine companion. Levi composed himself quickly and looked at the cadets with hardened eyes again.
I laughed at his behavior, then started examining the cadets. Most were doing pretty well, though a bit wobbly and shaky.
I called out a few orders and suggestions, and helped harness some dogs better. Over all, this group of cadets wasn't all that bad.
Before I knew it, it was lunch time and a large mass of people crowded into the mess hall. I made sure all the dogs got back to their kennels, where they had separate bowls filled with food and water waiting for them.
I walked out to the clearing to find Levi in his strange cleaning outfit, scrubbing away at harnesses, collars, etc...
I laughed at his clean-freak antics and sat beside him as he concentrated deeply on his task.
Just then, the sound of hooves clattering against the cobblestone of the clearing echoed through out the area. Glancing up, I found a neatly shaven blonde man wearing a military police symbol on his coat, atop an equally neat and clean ebony horse.
"Iris Jacobs?" he questioned in a deep, masculine and very posh voice.
"That's me," I reply with a small grin, already disliking the man.
"I have a message for you," he states simply before handing me an envolope.
Before I can utter any ponderings about the strange envolope, he's riding away. I sigh and Levi glances at the envolope suspciously, before returning half-heartedly to his cleaning.
There is no writing on the outside of the envelope, and the seal appears to be that of a Commander or maybe even someone higher in stature.
I slowly peel the seal open and cautiously take out the thin parchment from within.
The only markings on it were a few small words written in a fine curvy script.
'You are to report to Wall Sina'
I scowled at the simple message and waved my hand in front of Levi's face to get his attention. At first he just swatted me away, until I finally shoved the paper right in front of his eyes, he almost goes cross eyed as I push it to close. He takes the paper from me and just studies it for a moment after reading the seven words scrawled across it.
"I'll go with you," he states simply before handing the note back and returning to work.
"It doesn't even say when," I mutter, cranky at having to leave Fala so close to her birthing due date.
"Which most likely means 'as soon as possible'," Levi replies, also sighing at being forced into the crowded streets of the middle of human land.
"Alright... we'll leave tonight," I tell him.
He nods in agreement, I stand and ruffle his hair, knowing he's still destracted, and not wanting to interrupt him anymore. He glances up at me thorugh his eyelashes, with faint pink dusting his cheeks, then returns to his cleaning.
I walk over to the mess hall, and grab a sice of bread.
"Attention," I call out after finishing my bread.
The conversing, laughing, and relaxed tone remains as no one seems to notice my feeble attempts at drawing their gazes.
"ATTENTION," I yell louder now, using my commanding voice.
Every one goes silent and all eyes are on me now. "I am leaving for Wall Sina tonight and won't be back for a day or two. Corporal Levi is to acompany me," I begin.
"Of course," someone in the crowd mumbles and I glare harshly.
"I'm leaving MIkasa Ackerman in charge. You may return to your meals now," I finish, naming the very skilled Scout member, who, though she is not part of the canine squadron, is still part of our over all group. (I didn't mention Captain Erwin because he'd been away for a while on business about the female titan.)
I walk back to Levi and my shared room, and begin gathering a few of my possesions. I exchange my green Scout Regiment cloak for the more formal beige jacket with the wing-symbol printed on the back. I also pack a small bag of important forms that might be needed.
I head towards the stables just before sunset and prepare our horses, both being shadowy black geldings. Levi walks into the stables a short while after, wearing his formal jacket as well.
We ride off just as the sun moves below the horizon, and ride in darkness as the night drags on.
