Chapter 1- It's Just a High Five

"Aubrey, when will you talk to him?" Savannah asked me.
I laugh.
"I have talked to him. Just not in, uh. 2 years." I says.
Oh my gosh. I haven't realized it's been that long!
"You're never going to be with him if you can't even talk to him." Says Savannah.
"Working on that Sav." I says annoyed.

The 1st period bell rings.

Okay. You can do this Aubrey. You've got this. Just go talk to him. It's not that hard. Remember he's nice, he'll talk to anybody.
Aubrey walks up to Keaton.
"Crap!" Aubrey yells as she turns around and walks away.
So close.

Why is it so hard to talk to him? You've done this before. You both used to be friends. You had conversations every single day in 6th grade.

Gym Class

"Okay we're going to play sharks and minnows, I expect everyone to participate." Mr. Oak announced.
"Ugh. I hate this game." I says to Shay.
Shay agrees with me with a head nod.

"Ooohhh. Look who's it Aubrey!" Shay whispers with a smile on her face.
I turn around.
Oh my goodness! It's Keaton!
Shay and I walk to each side the entire time.
I wish he would just tag me but he keeps going over to the other side. Why would he tag me anyways? I'm not even participating.
Then I overheard Keaton going up to two people who were also walking and asking for a high five to get them out.
Keaton comes up to me and Shay.
Keaton goes up to Shay and gives her a high five. I smiled of course.
I know for sure he's not going to do that to me.
Next thing I realize. He had his hand up and I put mine up, of course I smiled, and he gave me a high five.
The high five wasn't those ones that hurt. He was so gentle.
His hands were so cold. Our entire arm touched. His finger brace was the only thing that hurt, yet it didn't hurt at all. The smile on his face when he came up to me. And the way it felt like it had never even happened.
But still, I did not say a word.
Maybe I'm just over reacting. I'm so stupid, I mean it's just a high five.
