September first was a full moon... Remus had learned this about six months prior whilst making a countdown towards his first day at Hogwarts. This wasn't the end of the world, his father told him, he would just have to go to Hogwarts the day before and be sorted before the rest of the students got there. This kind of ruined all of Remus' fantasies about meeting his future best friends on the train and slowly bonding over breakfasts in the great hall and tea in their common room, but, he could handle it, he could always ride the train next year.

The plan was for Lyall and Remus to apparate to Hogsmeade on August 31st, meet with a man named Rubeus Hagrid, and walk the short distance to Hogwarts. Remus had no idea where Hogsmeade was and what an apparition was, but he was ready to find out! But, before all of that, the Lupin family needed to visit Diagon Alley.

Diagon Alley, a place almost every young witch and wizard has visited while preparing for their upcoming year at Hogwarts. Very few magical folk haven't stepped through its brick gateway and marveled at its well, magical, presence. Lyall Lupin was lucky to have gotten his family a ministry car in which they were driven to Diagon Alley in. It was much unlike any car Remus or Hope had been in, it seemed to squeeze through tight spots and red lights as if it had rules of its own regarding the road and safety of civilians. Hope felt more or less sick.

"Are we there yet?" she said, her face slightly greenish, "you know how normal cars get me, why couldn't we have just apparated here?"

"Yeah, are we there yet?!" Remus said, his voice laced with excitement "are there gonna be owls like in the books? Or will there we people flying on broomsticks? Or magical books that talk?"

"You'll see," Lyall smiled, he remembered his first time in Diagon like it was yesterday, the little shops and restaurants were still bright and fresh in his mind, "and we're almost there, only a few more blocks"

The ministry car pulled up to a very shabby looking pub, it looked like it had been closed for several years, it was quite disappointing for Hope and Remus, who had never been to Diagon. Lyall however, basically ran up the front door of the pub and beckoned them in, smiling ear to ear.

"Hurry up, hurry up!" he said, like a child on Christmas morning, "Oh Remus, you're going to love this!" Mr. Lupin smiled and waved at the customers at the pub and quickly guided a very clueless Hope and a very excited Remus out behind the pub. He muttered something to himself and tapped one of the bricks in the alley, nothing happened for a second, but then the bricks started to move, slowly carving out a large entryway to a bustling street full of men women and children, most of them wearing colorful robes and hauling along giant bags and cages full off books, pets, and everything in-between.

Remus couldn't wait to explore every square inch of the place.
