The Voice
Lila knew the first time she heard his voice he was the man that killed her father. The man at the door did not know she knew. The person at the door was trying to sell her a lawn cutting service. She did not want to let him know she was on to him. She told him she would be right back and that she was going to check her calendar for a time in which she could arrange an appointment.
Lila walked straight over to the phone and called the police. She was terrified of this man as she had seen him enter this very house when she was young and murder her father in cold blood. He had shot him in the back. When the police arrived Lila was too horrified to recall anything about the man, but his voice.
His voice was loud and raspy. She recalled exactly what he had said to her father before he killed him.
“Maria was my wife and you stole her from me. Now you are going to pay the price and I can have my wife back.”
As Lila was waiting for the police to pick up, she realized the man outside was becoming impatient. The police answered finally. Lila said
“Hello, I have a suspected murder here at my house.” The address is 439 Presidio drive.” “I will try and keep him here as long as I can.” “Please hurry!”
She went back to the door and told the man that she had misplaced her calendar. She asked him if he would like to come in for a glass of lemonade. He thanked her and said he would love to.
As the murder introduced himself he told her he called himself Hank Fischer. This name did not sound familiar to Lila. She thought it must be and alias. She introduced herself as Hannah Jones. Keeping her identity of the daughter of the man he killed a secret.
As Hank sat down on the Sofa he made a movement towards his pocket. Lila closed her eyes and prayed that she was not about to die. She waited a few seconds before opening her eyes to see Hank was holding an appointment book.
He asked her more about a good time for her and she stalled and though of a few dates. She then came up with reasons those dates would not work.
Hank stopped for a second and looked around and then he said
“Something seems familiar about this house.”
He spoke again.
“Have we met before?”
After this last remark there is a knock on the door. Lila excuses herself and goes to open the door. The police file into the house and arrest the man that killed Lila’s father.
As Hank is dragged out he says
“I will see you in hell”
“You might have, but I just got out.”
Lila replied
The voice of a person you love or hate sticks with you for all of your life. The most important phrases always stand out. When you think of and important memory what is the first thing you think of? Is it the Voice?
