Pepper hid under the couch as she heard yelling and arguing around the room. She mewed a couple of distress calls. Pepper didn't fit as easily under the couch as she did as a kitten she was a full adult now. Her owner, Abby, kept yelling at a man who Pepper supposed to be her step father (her real father died in a car accident). The step father kept yelling at Abby. Finishing the fight, The man walked out of the house with a pack of beer and two packs of cigarettes. Pepper came out from under the couch. Her light gray pelt was covered by dust and dirt. Abby looked down at Pepper and saw her light orange eyes. Abby ignored her and pulled out her phone. Pepper laid down on the couch and fell asleep.

The next morning Pepper yawned and went over to her food bowl. She looked at the tag of each food bowl. Buster (A Rottweiler), Bandit (A Great Dane), and finally Pepper. She leaned over the bowl with the beautiful print of her name. She took a couple of bites then drank her water. Her eyes shifted to the window while she continued to eat and drink. After eating she jumped on the counter and stared outside. Bandit and Buster were fighting once again. She went through the doggy door and watched them fight. Buster would bite Bandits neck and tail, while Bandit would bite Busters leg and muzzle. Pepper watched in amusement as the two dogs battled. She kept watching until they broke apart and saw Pepper.
"Hello Pepper," Buster said licking his lips. Pepper glared at both dogs as they walked towards her.
"Hello Buster," Pepper meowed sitting patiently. The dogs started circling her. Their eyes were kept on her and their teeth were shown. Both dogs went into an attack pose to pounce on Pepper. Barking and growling, Bandit charged at Pepper without her knowing. Pepper broke into a sprint as both dogs chased after her. She ran towards the shed and went into a hole under it. They barked and growled into the hole snapping at Pepper. Abby ran outside and shooed the dogs away.
"Come out Pepper you're safe now," Abby reassured Pepper. Pepper meowed and rubbed her head against Abby's chin purring.
