Chapter 1
Its been 3 years since I ran away. I am now 23 and I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Her name is Lalla (pronounced la-yah) Eleena Hernandez. She is very smart for a 3 year old. Very unique too. One time when she was over a friend’s house her friend didn’t have any milk so Lalla stopped drinking and pushed her bottle towards her friend and insisted that she drink it. Also if a baby cried she would waddle over there and give him or her her toy to play with because she cares. Together Lalla and I live in an apartment. While she goes to day care I go to work at my job as a waitress or hostess at Taco Mac. There I met my friend and neighbor Isabel Davis. She soon became my best friend and she knows all about my past and respects for how strong I am. Today after I dropped Lalla off to day care I drove to work. I walked in through the back and changed into the Taco Mac uniform which consisted of the blue Taco Mac shirt and Khaki shorts with black closed toed shoes. “Hey girl what’s up?” Isabel asked me. I smiled at her and got my apron and not pad and everything else I needed as a waitress. “Nothing same as always,” She nudged me. “Okay I know you might hate me for bringing this up again but honey you need a man. Date someone, stop being a mom,” She looked at me. “Raine I know you, you are a loveable person that needs to be loved,” I sighed “Its not that I don’t want to date but I am a single mother. I can date but I want something for real I don’t just want one date and then they find out I have a daughter and never see me again. I’m ready for a long lasting eternal love. Someone who doesn’t care that I am a mom but because I am a mom that shows my maturity. Someone who understands that and still wants to date me,” I looked at her. “Someone to like me and not my assets. Someone to love me,” I whispered looking away. “Oh Raine, it must really be tough for you,” I nodded “It is but I wouldn’t change it for anything,” I walked toward the front and started to do my rounds. Isabel walked by me. “You have a table of people that just sat down get on it,” I nodded. “Thanks,” I walked toward the table full of guys an took out my notepad. “Hey guys, my name is Raine, welcome to Taco Mac what can I get you for your drinks,” I looked up and suppressed a gasp all the men here were fine as heck but that wasn’t what caught my attention it was the boy on the left He had dark brown hair that reached a little past his ears. His eyes caught me they were a silverish gray, I’ve never seen eyes like that before. I looked down at the rest of him. He clearly was lean as his white shirt stretched across his broad chest. He wasn’t very big but you could tell he worked out enough to have a 6 pack but still not be so big. He smiled at me when he saw I was staring. I looked back at my notepad so he didn’t see my blush. “I’ll have a Sprite,” I nodded and tried to ignore how sexy and deep his voice sounded. I turned to toward the other 3 “I’ll take a Sprite as well sweetheart,” He was a blonde and definitely a player. The other a boy with spiky black hair said coke and another said ginger ale. I nodded and left for the drinks. “Is, why didn’t you tell me that they were hot!” She smiled at me “Sorry sweetheart if I did then you probably wouldn’t have gone,” She held her hands up in surrender. I smiled a little but huffed like I was still mad. She saw through my blush though. I left and went to get the drinks while she laughed at me. I smiled to myself as I brought them my drinks. “You guys ready to order?” I asked looking at them. “Yeah sweetie I’ll have the -“ “CRASH!” I looked behind me to see no other than Alexis on the floor drinks spilled all over her. I turned back and faced the boys and rolled my eyes. I heard Isabel stomp over and I handed her my towel as she passed “Payback’s a bitch,” I said over my shoulder She stuck her tongue out at me. “Humph,” she stomped toward Alexis and helped her up. I looked back toward the boys and saw them staring at me intently. “Sorry she’s new, a little uncoordinated as you can see,” I gestured to her wobbly legs as she stood up. They chuckled. “How long has she been working here?” The spiky black haired one asked. “3 years,” They looked shocked. “Why wasn’t she fired?” Mr. Sexy asked. “Her father is the manager and she needs the job with how much she shops,” They nodded in understanding. “So what can I get you?” They told me their orders and I went to put them in. I sighed and sat down. “Hey Is,” I smirked at her as she wiped her hands clean and went to out the towels in the washing machine. “Hey yourself, stupid Alexis, why is she so clumsy?” I shrugged I wondered that too. “So?” She prompted. I looked at her confused. “So?” She looked at me like I was stupid. “Come on Raine, how was the table full of boys?” She wiggled her eyebrows. “They were all cute but I don’t know why but the one with the gray eyes caught me,” I sighed. She was about to say something but the bell rang signaling my food was ready. “Hey, grab a plate for me please?” I asked Is. She nodded and we walked out. After we handed the food and I gave them the bill, I went to collect it and clean the table when I saw a large amount of money on the table. The bill was only $50 but it was $100 on the table. I walked toward the back and clocked out. “Is, I’m heading out,” She nodded “Okay see ya later,” I waved and left. I drove home and went to pick up Lalla from Ms. Davis (Isabel’s mom) “Thanks, Ms Davis,” I said picking up a sleepy Lalla. She shook her head “Its no trouble at all, she’s a real sweetheart. And how many times must I tell you call me Sharon,” I smiled and nodded
‘Okay, I will. Bye,” I walked toward my door. And put Lalla in her crib I was about to walk away when she started crying. I smiled a little. “Okay, I’ll sing,” “Deseo era lo suficientemente fuerte como para levantar no uno pero ambos de nosotros.Algún día seré lo suficientemente fuerte como para levantar no uno pero ambos de nosotros.” (I wish I was strong enough to lift not one but, both of us. Someday, I will be strong enough to lift not one but both of us.) I sang it a few times than began to hum it. It was my personal creed to my daughter, but to her it was her lullaby. She soon fell asleep and I kissed her cheek and went to change into my pj’s then I fell asleep.
