Chapter 28

To say that I was pissed at Harry was an understatement. After abandoning him in front of the tour bus, my phone began to ring. I didn’t have to look at it to know that it was him. After it rang a few times, I leaned down and pressed ignore. Sure enough, Harry’s grinning profile stared up at me from the screen. After another couple of minutes, the phone began to ring again. At first it was Paul, then Preston, and then Lou. After a short while, Louis and Niall began to call. Then one by one the rest of the boys did, too. I was humiliated. If everyone was calling that had to mean that Harry had told them what had happened. I’d be a laughing stock.

I noticed that a couple other covered golf carts began to follow me. But mine was newer and faster than theirs, and I quickly overtook them. A few of the security guys were running futilely along the side of me, but I just pressed down harder on the gas pedal. I could hear their radios chirping back and forth as people talked and yelled at each other. I caught small pieces of what everyone was saying, but I couldn’t stand their chatter. I watched as a giant semi headed for the giant chain link face, and I changed course, heading outside the gates. The semi passed through just as I reached it, and I floored it, barely passing through the gates before they closed on me,

I could hear the engines of cars starting behind me, and the whine of the gates as they slowly reopened. I didn’t stand a chance against one of the giant Escalades. At the last second, I skirted through a narrow path in the fans, ignoring their screams and shouts as they dove out of my way. I then turned up onto the steep lawn where I knew the cars couldn’t get to me and went over the hill to the sidewalk on the other side.

The sidewalks were semi clear. Driving half on the grass and half on the pavement when I could, I made good time, only earning the finger from a few passing pedestrians. I got probably a mile away from the stadium before the golf cart began to sputter and cough. It was out of gas. I quickly pulled over and parked by some bushes before pulling the key out of the ignition and running. I saw two of the Escalades race past my hiding position, and my heart fluttered nervously. My phone was still ringing off the hook, so I quickly switched it off and shoved it into the glove compartment of the golf cart. God only knew the tracking devices that were put on that thing. Then, I ran.

I darted between closed stores and apartment complexes in the darkness. Horns honked and sirens blared everywhere, but I ignored them. I felt a twinge of guilt again, but I quickly brushed it away in place of my anger. After running until I could run no more, I found myself with nowhere else to go. In front of me, there was a sharp drop off into a ravine below me. In the darkness, I could hear water rushing beneath me. To the left was brush and trees and to the right was a sharp rock wall. Going back wasn’t an option, so I sat on my bum and scooted to the edge, dangling and swinging my legs over the side.

It was cold by the water. I wasn’t sure what time it was, and I was seriously regretting wearing my favorite holey pants tonight. I shivered and thought about everything that had happened, recalling a mysterious sense of déjà vu. I flashed back to our one month anniversary, when I’d stormed out of the club after that terrible fight. Harry was probably worried sick, and a small piece of me felt guilty for making him feel that way and causing such trouble. But another part of me didn’t care. After what he did, what he said, he deserved to feel that way.
