Chapter One

" Hold on to me.." She squeaks through her tears of fear and loss. He grips her hand more tightly and

rubs his thumbs in a rotation around the top of her hand trying to soothe her even though he knew she was long gone.

" I won't ever let you go." He whispers shakily as sweat dampens his face like rain. Fire blazes around him and the ground

shakes and groans threatening to crumble beneath him. He raps a second hand around hers not wanting her like everyone else

he knew slip away from him into the pits of hell as he saw it. Lava bubbled beneath her and she screached as a small bit scourched

her calf. " Hang on!" He growled at her threw his teeth more to himself that her. She was shaking even harder now. " But but.."

She started but something silenced her. The ground groaned loudly and his pupils contracted at the realization of what was

going to slip away from him. He wouldn't let it happen again. He had watched his mother, his sister, and even his father

who'd abandonned him as a child he watched in with tearful eyes as they met their fates like everyone else.

" I won't let you slip away." He snarled again looking back at her his stare boring holes into her face. Her frail

hands gripped his tightly. She wanted to just let go. The pain from the loss of everyone she loved was too much to live with.

She wanted to join them but her love for him kept her hanging on. For him she gripped his sweaty hands tightly in hers.

She didn't say anything. She wanted to believe there was others left. But they had to face it. They were alone in the world.

The only two people left. No one was searching for them. They had no one left to find or save but each other now.

" There is no one left.." She whispers. He gave  her a worried look. " What do you mean?!" He growls. " OFCOURSE THERE IS!"

" We are the only ones left.." She says her eyes distant. Though her and his eyes are facing each other she isn't

looking at him any more. His face goes worried and fearful. " Stop talking crazy!" He pleads tearfuly. He doesn't know what

to think. What did she mean? They still had lives to save. People to find. To help survive as long as their is ground to stand

on. Of course there was more people left. All he had to do was show her. Pull her out of the lava pit she was dangling in

and show her all the things still alive in this world. But he couldn't. He didn't want to be selfish. But more wieght on the

ground would surely make it crumble the way it was groaning now. He bit his lip. Maybe they could run. He had the strength to

pull her up but how much longer would she be willing to hang on? He could keep her dangling but it all depended on her side of

the bargain now. And it didn't seem she was willing any more.

" I'm going to pull you up." He whispers through his teeth. Her eyes snap back to life and they finaly meet his fully.

" But you'll-" She starts. " It doesn't matter any more!" He yells tears streaming down his red face. She grasps his palm and raps

her other hand around his arm nodding she is ready for him to pull. He closes his eyes and lets one last tear stream before using all of

his strength to pull her up. The ground grumbles but after that nothing...

Nothing happened.

He kept his eyes sealed to scared of what he was going too see. The pool of lava hurtling towards him? Rocks falling around him. Her

face falling into the lava shrinking as it goes? " Hey." She taps his shoulder hard and hurridly. He opens his eyes and jumps to his feet.

He stands over her and there is no time to say anything. The ground groans loudly and she grasps his hand running as fast as her legs can

carry her not loosening her grip on his hand. Not once did they look back. The sound of falling rubble began to roar in their ears.

He closed his eyes again but kept running. As long as her hand was pulling on his he wasn't going to look.

Not at the beauty of her long blonde hair flying around her as she ran. The look he'd always loved to see on her face when they

met together. Nothing would make his eyes open now. He heard her scream and he couldn't help but open his eyes. Her foot had caught

on some sort of thing and was bleeding hoarsly because it had snagged on her horrible wound from earlier. He didn't bother to ask if

she was okay before he snatched her in his arms and continued running. She grasps his shirt tightly in her hands, while sobbing even harder

as memories of the day's past events dawn on her again. So many lives lost. So many screams.... so much blood....

His eyes locked on a patch of thick rock. He didn't know why he believed it would save them. Something in his heart just told him to make it

to the patch or they could both die. " Where are we going." She panted through her sweat and tears. " Places." He laughed remembering their

old routine. Where when he left her house from hanging out she'd ask him where he was going and it was the same answer everytime, " Places."

She laughed obviously remembering too. He was inches from the patch. Just a step away from it.

There was a crack.

A scream.

Then blackness.

and silence over came them both...
