Blessing In Disguise

Part 1

The bride stepped foot in her new home when at the same time her groom left her side, walking away from his own house to escape the harsh reality.

Tears threatened to spill out of her oval shaped brown orbs as she saw him throw his gathbandhan (the marriage knot) clearly showing that he wanted nothing to do with his unwanted wife.

Renuka Shekawath, his mother shook her head in disappointment as she wipped the tears of her daughter in law. Sanyukta passed her a small smile, her eyes twinkling as she felt the motherly affection she always ached for.

"Don't mind him Sanyu. He is a little stubborn and hard on the outside but he has a heart of gold."

Renuka's words gave her hope. She blinked her tears at the thought of being accepted.

Renuka caressed her hair with sanyukta's head on her lap. Planting a kiss on her daughter's forehead, she lulled her to sleep while Sanyukta looked at her in awe until she fell into deep slumber

"Mumma what are you doing" I asked worried as she pulled me harshly with anger visible in her eyes.

"Getting rid of a mistake I made years ago " She said, bitterness dropping from her words.

"What!"

I had tears in my eyes. Did i do something wrong? Did mumma hate me? I thought. Sadness filling me as she grabed me and shoved me out of the door.

"Leave and never come back here you brat! You are not wanted here. Consider yourself an orphan!"

She spate the cruel words before slamming the door on my face.  Tears started to well up in my eyes.

"Mumma. Mumma, please open the door. It's cold here. I am sorry mumma. I will be a good girl"

I cried banging the door. But she didn't open the door. I shivered in cold as I covered my five year old self with my knees waiting for my mumma to open the door. Which she never did.

Sanyukta woke up sweeting from her nightmare, a memory which haunts her till date. The memory of her mother throwing her out of the house. The time she was abondoned as a five year old by her birth mother.

Feeling the soft pillow Sanyukta hid her face in the pillow chocking on her sob only to realise she was hugging her mother in law who slept in a sitting position, her hands resting on her forehead.

'Is this how a mother loves a child?'

Questioned her innocent heart as she glanced at her mother in law sleeping in an uncomfortable position, just to make her feel comfortable.
