It was his first day in the city, his first day seeing. Gabe had just settled down into his bedroom, into his new house, when his step-mom called down for him to go downstairs. He pretended not to hear her, he hated her. She came into his life all f a sudden and expected for him to accept him as a motherly figure. Gabe’s mom died a year ago and he still hasn’t gotten over the fact that she wasn’t coming back.
A few moments later she walked into his room.
“I need for you to go to the store later to get stuff for dinner please.” She said in a calm tone.
“Do you have a store list? And where the hell is it? Shouldn’t you go since you grew up in this ghost town?” Gabe said back, in an aggressive tone.
“Gabe, please don’t get an attitude with your mother.” Gabe’s dad, John, said.
“She’s not my mother” Gabe said before getting up and storming out of the house
He got into his car and drove to the Caseys up the street. He went in and bought a Monster Energy Drink and a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos. Afterwards, he decided to go to Sequoia Park, using his phone as a guide to get there. He stayed in his car and started to eat his chips as a boy about his height fell from his skateboard onto the concrete. Gabe immediately got out and offered to help him up. The boy took Gabe’s hand to help him get up.
“Are you okay? That looked painful.” Gabe said, a little worried.
“I’ll be fine. I’m Jace.” He stuck out his hand.
I shook his hand as I introduced myself. I offered to take him to his house, so he wasn’t walking on his leg. I helped him over to the passenger side of my car and told him he could pick the radio station. I got back into the driver seat and waited for him to give me directions. Five minutes later, I pulled into the driveway of a white two story house with a black picket fence and a two car garage.
“Thanks for the ride, if you want, you can come in.” Jace said, while unlocking the front door.
"Sure, why not?" I said as I walked up the golden brown wood steps.
