A new beginning

"I'm late!!"
I accidentally slammed the door of my room as I ran out with my luggage. How lucky my family said goodbye to me properly yesterday. I felt a bit bad but I had something more important to worry about.
While running with my luggage I noticed one of my bags being missed and panicked as I looked around with the hope to find it soon. It was nowhere on the ground or anywhere else so I had to turn around again. There it was.
A tall girl with short blonde hair had it. When had she actually been passing by?
Whatever, she threw the bag back so that I could catch it.
"Be more careful next time."
Her voice was deep.. I got a bit embarrassed while thinking about the difference between the pitch of our voices.
However, I would have liked to get to see her face. She seemed to be beautiful.. And kind.

I was lucky attending right in time.
The teachers lecturing here are a lot stricter than at my old school, I need some time to get used to it but I think I will like it here.
However, introducing oneself was embarrassing as always. The same quiet and almost creepily staring class every time.
After that, when walking down the classroom to sit down, the students started whispering and gossiping. Sometimes, rumors get founded already and spread around in the whole school. That doesn't count me in. Well, at least not the rumors.
A girl with long and black straight hair approached me and after getting to know each other Haruna and I became friends.
"Let's have our lunch together, Saki!", she smiled at me while taking out her bento-box.
I nodded: "I have seen an interesting spot where I'd like to sit and eat."
We sat beneath trees where the hot sun wouldn't hit us. Next to us there were the fountains near the main entrance. I could clearly hear the relaxing sounds of the water.
"Wow, how does your lunch look this good??", Haruna sparkled after I had opened my bento-box.
"I have been cooking with my mother", I smiled proudly at my lunch.
"That sounds great.. Compare that to mine, only food bought at the convenience store.", she pouted.
"Do you always eat this food?"
"Yeah, my parents don't care about me for a bit now that I've grown up in their eyes. I'm working at that convenience store and get some food for school."
I shared my lunch with Haruna: "Take these. If you'd like to, we can cook together sometimes."
She jumped up full of excitement: "Really?? You will teach me how to cook?"
I giggled: "It would be my pleasure!"

In the background, a tall girl was walking to the fountains and took a seat there.
It was the girl who picked up my luggage. She put up one leg and set her bento-box on her knee. It looked like a dish from an expensive restaurant.
Two boys were accompanying her. They seemed to be at her age or a little bit older. Looking at their school uniforms they seemed to be our seniors.
Haruna spotted them as well: "This girl is Hitomi also known as the 'Instructor'. She is responsible for the dorm and takes care of almost every managing duty. Sounds very nice and kind but she is colder than ice and her eyes are sharper than blades. A strict and intelligent senior, highly respected by others and mostly scary to them."
I couldn't believe Hitomi would be a rude person while watching her relaxing at the fountains and eating her lunch.
"The guy who looks like a delinquent with the spiky and red hair is Lucas. He transferred from a different country and is younger than the other two. He is known for his lack of intelligence because the only thing he has in his mind is having fun and fooling around. So calling him dumb is actually not far away from the truth."
As I looked at Lucas I wondered whether he had committed a real crime or just been breaking the rules by dying his hair.
"The total difference is Yuu, the oldest one of them. He is the top-student in their year, a calm and formal person always reading a book. People say he doesn't have any bad spirits."
It was true he looked very pure and mature with his long hair bound to a ponytail while reading his book.
Haruna stood up: "I will get us some drinks to refresh ourselves before the next lesson starts", she walked off.

Lucas ate some of Hitomi's food without permission: "Delicious as always~", he laughed.
I have been walking over to them and bowed: "Please excuse me disturbing you seniors..", I looked at Hitomi who was focused on eating. To be honest, the male seniors were somehow scary as they stood up. Lucas on my left was about 1,90m tall and Yuu on the right 5cm shorter than him. I got nervous because I am only at 1,68m and tried my best to ignore it.. I could feel how the senior from abroad was examining me with his eyes while the other one was observing. I thought the only way of getting positive vibes was to get some help of the girl in between.
"I would like to thank you for picking up and returning my luggage this morning!", I remembered how deep Hitomi's voice was back then and blushed as I imagined myself squeaking like a little bird.
She finally glanced at me once and returned to her food: "I don't know you."

She was definitely not what I've been thinking so far!
"Uhm.. The bag this morning..-"
"Oi!", Hitomi got up and hit Lucas' head with her chopsticks so that a sound resonated, "Who taught you to take some food without asking for allowance, huh?!"
I flinched a bit at her clear and loud dominating voice. I've looked up and watched the about 1,83m tall girl scolding her friend. She turned around after a short while and gazed at me. I sensed her incredibly sharp eyes piercing through me - a cold running down my spine. I panicked and apologized with a bow before running to the entrance.

I was very exhausted after school because I am not used to sitting in the class room until evening. When I had finally found the way to the dorm I was relieved I met a teacher there.
"Usually, Hitomi is showing new students around the dorm and explains everything to them. Since she is urgently needed for a school's-project, I will lead you to your room."

The room was very clean and tidy, it looked as if a teacher would be living here. After a while I heard footsteps coming closer to the door and stood up for a proper greeting. When the door opened, I bowed: "My name is Saki, I will be your room mate. Please take good care of me."
As I looked up I flinched after seeing a certain cold face.
"Don't you run off again. I apologize for not being able to lead you through the dorm as the responsible one here.", she bowed and walked to her shelves full of folders putting the one in her arm back to its place.
Hitomi does have good manners.
"Well.. You can show me some time when you are not this busy anymore.", I watched my senior sitting in front of her desk with many sheets of paper and multiple folders forming a mess at this tidy place. It appeared similar to my imagination of working at an office. Hitomi seemed to have a lot of things to accomplish.
"If that's your wish, I will make up to you."
My lips formed a soft smile.
I think my senior has a kind heart hiding inside her cold facade.
