Jess's POV:
I slouch down in a chair in the principals office and give Dan an ugly glare and see that he is doing the same back at me.
"Would you two care to tell me what happened back there?" Says Mr. Anderson rubbing his forehead.
I decided that I would speak up first.
"Well Dan here decided that it would be fun to make fun of my friend Augustus for no reason."
"Is this true?" Mr. Anderson asks raising his eyebrows at Dan.
"Well..yeah..yes... but I mean look what she did to me!" He stammers pointing to his nose.
"Now, since I wasn't there, I'm going to have to take both sides of your story. Because of this, I think that it's fair that you are both punished for your actions. Detention, both of you, after school tomorrow. Jess, stay behind, Dan you can leave."
Dan stood up and left in a huff, not glancing back at me.
"Jess, this is only your second day. From what your teachers at the last school told us, you are a very good student academically and personality wise. What has gotten into you?"
"Nothing..." I mumble. "I just don't like seeing my friends getting pushed around."
"There are other ways to handle that you know. Try not to get into anymore trouble. I don't want to be seeing you in here again." He dismisses me with a wave and I grab my stuff and practically run out if the office.
I go back to my classes and think about what happened this morning for the rest of the afternoon.
----
"Jess!" I hear someone yell from behind me as I stuff my books into my bag. The voice came from a girl a little shorter than me with medium length brown hair wearing mint green converse and a Pittsburgh Penguins shirt.
"Hey, it's Jess right?" She asks with a questioning look on her face.
"Yeah, do I know you?" I ask her.
"Probably not. I'm Adelyn." She says nodding her head.
"I'm, well, you already know that..."
"I just wanted to come up and say that I think the way you stood up to Dan this morning was great. Nobody has ever dared to do that, all to afraid of being bullied themselves." She says rolling her eyes.
"Thanks."
"We should hang out sometime. You seem cool."
"Yeah, sure, that'd be great. Here, let me give you my number."
We exchanged phones and typed in our numbers.
"See ya tomorrow!" she says excitedly and walks off.
Finally I made a friend, sort of, I want to get to know her better.
I go and catch up with Augustus as I see him walking up to me to walk home.
"Hey, how are you?" he asks a little worriedly as we walk out the front doors of the school.
"I'm actually doing very well. It felt good to stand up to Dan, even though I did get in trouble and I'm going to detention tomorrow after school and yeah..." I say scratching the back of my neck.
"Wait what? You're going to detention?! I can't let you do that, no, this is all my fault." Gus says rubbing his forehead.
"No, it's actually okay. I just wish that Dan would stop bothering you, but maybe he will from now on after all that. That's what friends are for right?" I smile up at him.
