Step 6

"A-A couple dance battle?" Lucy stuttered. "Is he serious? I thought that this battle was going to be just the two of them?"

"They are going to be judged individually but nevertheless, this is going to be very challenging," Marius grinned. "It's like I'm also going to battle you, my best bud, huh, Lawrence?"

"I'm not really that pumped up to battle you," Lawrence replied to his mate then turned his attention to me, "You on the other hand...? I'm going to make you cry,"

"I don't cry," I glared at him. "You better do your best, Luther. I don't hold back,"

"You don't even need too," he softly grabbed his sister's arm. "I'm going to polish your skills, Lucy. You better be ready. We're going to practice all day and all night for this battle. I'm going to bring you down, Aria Flint,"

"Bring me down? Good luck with that," I chuckled. "You're going to be the reason of why I'm going to go up to the top, Lawrence Luther. I will be the end of your career,"

"Don't talk like it's the end for me," he laughed a cold laugh. "Even though you're already at the bottom, I'll dig up a hole just to lower you a foot down,"

"That asshole," I stomped my way out of the dance school with all of my friends from the crew. "I fucking hate his guts!"

"We all know that, Aria," Carter said.

"He really did say that to you?" Cindy asked and I nodded.

"If I was in your place, I would have already hit him where the sun doesn't shine anymore," Janine admitted. "It's a good thing that you kept up your cool,"

"I would have already smacked him if I didn't think about the offense I'm going to make," I frowned. "Hitting a student might mean expulsion. And it's only my second day in this school,"

"You've got a point there," Kenneth nodded. "By the way, you said that it's a couple dance battle, right? Then who's your partner? And who is Lawrence's partner?"

"Lawrence's partner is his sister, Lucy," I looked at Mike who was already blushing at Lucy's name. "My partner though is Lawrence's bestfriend named Marius Stan,"

"Isn't that a little bit unfair?" Mike asked. "Your partner is your enemy's bestfriend. That Marius Stan could make your performance looked like trash if he wanted to so he could help his friend,"

"If he did that," I then said comfortably, "Lucy will be on my side. I am sure she's going to make Lawrence's performance looks like trash too. She's kind of my fan...I think?"

"One Luther as your fan and one Luther as your enemy," Carter wondered. "That would make a good plot for a movie, eh?"

"Don't talk Hollywood on me," I told my best friend. "You need to come over to my house. We've got some polishing and practicing to do."

***

"What song?" Carter asked.

"I'll go with 'Can't take my eyes off of you'," I answered. "We both know that it's a good song to dance, right?"

"Of course," he agreed. "Let's do this,"

I planned to tell Marius all the steps that Carter made. Marius didn't have a say on this since I was the one who was going to compete.

Carter and I corrected our mistakes again and again until it came to perfection. It was already midnight but we didn't care. We were used to this. We were used to practicing until morning. My dad was already sleeping of course, but he knew we were practicing.

"How do you think you're going to beat him?" Carter asked as we ended our session.

"With my skills, of course," I said confidently. "I'm going to crush him fair and square,"

"But you do know that he's good, right?" he asked. "I know you're also that good, Aria. But it's pretty unpredictable of who will win,"

"I know," I said. "If I lose, then I lost. I'll accept the judges' decision,"

"Um...I've got something so tell you, Aria,"

"What is it?"

I studied my best friend's face and noticed that he was holding something back and then agreed to his self to drop the subject. "Nothing, don't mind what I said."

***

"Woah, mini black holes under your eyes," Lucy commented whilst staring at my face. "The black hole would even suck your whole face!"

"Ha. Ha. Very funny, Lucy," I said with sarcasm. "Carter and I stayed up late last night just to practice,"

"You practiced that much?" she asked. "The date of the battle isn't even announced yet,"

"I really need to beat that brother of yours,"

"It's really unpredictable who will win," she said as we made our way to our first class. When we stepped inside the room, there were already many students gathered inside it, waiting for Mrs. Lewis, our interpretative dance teacher.

I noticed that everybody inside the room was looking at me. It was quite obvious that they already knew the battle between the top student of the school and the top scholarship student of the school. I couldn't quite tell what they were thinking about. Maybe some were admiring me or maybe everyone was against me.

I did know that Lawrence was a popular kid in school, not the typical popular kid that you see in those movies. Lawrence was the real deal of a popular kid, smart, talented, and handsome.

Wait, what they hell was I saying?

And how the hell would I know if he was smart?

I was just talking about him wonderfully whilst he might be talking bad about me.

It was obvious that he hated me that much.

The real question was...why was I that bothered about it?

***

"I feel like I'm going to fail that class!" I almost shouted.

"Yeah, right," Lucy rolled her eyes. "You just aced it and you feel like you're going to fail Math and Science? Damn, you just got one question wrong and it's like it's the end of the world for you!"

"I don't like making mistakes," I mumbled like a child.

"So does my brother,"

"Hey!" I whined. "Don't bring him in this conversation!"

"Now that I think about it, you would make a really great couple,"

"What?! That's insane,"

"You have so many things in common," she stated. "You don't even like making a mistake, not even a single mistake! You're like my brother! You would totally look good together,"

"Please," I said. "We're like dog and cat. Anyways, Carter saved us a seat in the cafeteria,"

"You call the cafeteria the "dining hall","

"Whatever," I rolled my eyes. "They have food so it's called the cafeteria,"

Ugh.
