What came first? The chicken or the egg?

What came first? Water? Air?

Many will say that the Earth came first, before anything could follow.

But many seem to forget, the Earth itself was forged from celestial flames. Eons and eons were spent breathing life and warmth into the chosen sphere.

We are fire before anything else, ever-burning flames of life and destruction. Nebulous embers haven been blazing since the dawn of creation and they continue to fuel existence.

So, what came first?

Akemi

Long ago, when the earth and universe were still young and newly created, a fire spirit named Akemi sat atop a high and reserved mountain, watching over the rich lands she had been born to protect. As she sat and watched the Earth, with a smile placed upon her playful lips, a radiance around her flickered. It had started off small, but with each passing day, the radiance grow brighter and warmer.

The core of the Earth formed, gaining sustenance from Akemi's aura. Her warmth fueled life, and yet she sat all alone. She could sing and talk to the living breeze and earth around her, but not to the extent of what was needed. As forests grew and streams emerged she couldn't help but notice the dullness of these new creations. They didn't bubble with mirth as her volcanoes did, nor sing as the fires coals. What did her planet need to fully grow?

Days passed, and new emotions overcame Akemi, ones of coldness and emptiness. She could not bring herself to smile as she had when she first sat atop the reserved mountain, her body aching with the weight of disappointment. She had been taught to blaze bright, but that only burned away life. Her planet was dying before it could even start, and she would flicker out with it.

As she sat and mourned, an idea suddenly flared up when a large gust of wind blew past, making her flames glow as brightly as the day she had been born. Instead of looking down, she looked around her for a change.

Noticing that she sat in a small blanket of wispy clouds, ones that were white and rather soft to the touch. She smiled and gathered some into her palm, playing with it, letting it slip through her fingers into her lap.  As she manipulated the wisps of air, Akemi realized another missing portion of her character. She was a creator, someone born to create and protect.

Flames spinning wildly as her excitement grew, she poured her overflowing warmth into the clouds sitting in her palm. A being took shape, little by little, one that grew similar to herself. Once done molding, Akemi smiled. What she had created was beautiful truly.
